Changes in relative concentrations of brain phosphates participating in energy metabolism and intracellular pH at selected time intervals after whole body gamma-irradiation at a single dose of 6.5 or 300 Gy were studied by 37P NMR in vivo. The decrease in correlations between measured parameters under acute radiation exposure was demonstrated.

The method of 31P NMR in vivo was used to study phosphorylated metabolite dynamics in rat brain after a single gamma-radiation dose of 6.5 Gy. A reversible decrease in a relative concentration of inorganic phosphate and an increase in intracellular pH were noted 24 h after irradiation.

Distribution and dynamical characteristics of water molecules in normal and degeneratively changed rabbit intervertebral discs (ID) are estimated basing on the biexponential relaxation analysis of MR-images. Degenerative-dystrophic changes in a rabbit spine were modelled via a spine segmental blood supply injury and, in some cases, removal of ID nuclei. Extreme distributions of relaxation parameters in the ID plane characteristic of intact IDs are shown to be disturbed in cases of ID degenerative changes.

Thymus and lymph node lymphocytes in L-1210 ascite lymphoma, Lewis tumor, 22a hepatoma have been studied by NMR. Lymphocyte 1H-NMR spectra can to a certain extent reflect the state of immune system of an organism, in particular, they can sense both transformation of lymphocytes, and development of several tumors which are not accompanied by transformation of lymphocytes. In the latter case, changes in lymphocyte spectra takes place at terminal stages of carcinogenesis and are less pronounced than at transformation of lymphocytes.

High-resolution 1H-NMR (360 MHz) combined with thin-layer chromatography was used to study profile and molecular structure changes of inverted micelles of human blood developing in patients with malignant and benign tumors of the breast and uterus. Alterations were demonstrated in relative intensities of some lipid NMR peaks in tumor, as compared to normal blood. Changes in blood lipid levels, e.
