The Ising model is of prime importance in the field of statistical mechanics. Here we show that Ising-type interactions can be realized in periodically driven circuits of stochastic binary resistors with memory. A key feature of our realization is the simultaneous coexistence of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions between two neighboring spins-an extraordinary property not available in nature.

The non-HDL cholesterol is defined as the value between total cholesterol and HDL - total cholesterol, and it involves the different fractions of lipoproteins: low-density lipoprotein, intermediate-density lipoprotein, and very low density lipoprotein, including highly atherogenic lipoproteins as very low density lipoprotein remnants. The purpose of this study was to compare the values of non-HDL cholesterol as a cardiovascular risk marker in a control population, and one diabetic and hypertensive.

It is predicated on the fact that chemical pollution can exert toxic effects on organisms at the individual and population levels. These toxic effects may provide important information to supplement chemical analysis of environmental samples and aid in assessing the environmental quality of specific ecosystems.

Proteins from gill, digestive gland and mantle of the clam Tapes semidecussatus were selected on glutathione (GSH) agarose to simplify proteomic comparison. Analysis by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2D SDS PAGE) revealed tissue-specific patterns of protein expression with some spots common to all tissues. Immunoblotting of gill and digestive gland separations identified some spots as glutathione transferases (GSTs).

Heat shock response was measured by immunoblotting using antibodies specific to heat shock proteins (hsps). Densitometry analysis of individual bands revealed no difference between control and treated samples except appearance of hsp90 in DDE-treated mantle.
