Randomized trial: treatment of genitourinary syndrome of menopause using radiofrequency.

Objective: A randomized controlled study was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of radiofrequency treatment in postmenopausal women not willing to use or presenting a contraindication for menopause hormone therapy (MHT) and suffering from genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM).

Methods: A prospective randomized open study evaluated the effect of radiofrequency treatment versus a gel (control group) in postmenopausal women suffering from GSM. Patients were assessed at baseline and after 10-12 weeks of treatment for severity of vulvovaginal atrophy, dyspareunia, pH, vaginal smear maturation index, Vaginal Health Index and Female Sexual Function Index.

Raw reveries, polaroid reveries: Some hypotheses about possible functions and technical uses of reveries in the session.

The author tries to show how the epiphany of a reverie during a session can become a source of unexpected intuitions about the essence and possible figurability of the emotional experience which is flowing in the here-and-now of the analytic life. Reverie becomes an important analytic source above all when an analyst is in contact with primordial states of the mind, characterized by turbulences of unrepresentable feelings and sensations. In this paper the author outlines a hypothetical kit of functions, technical uses and analytic effects of a reverie in an analytic process, working through the idea of analysis as the transformation in dreaming of the nightmares and terrors which beset and trouble the patient's mind.

Menopausal hormone therapy and breast cancer risk.

This narrative review analyses the customization of Menopause Hormone Therapy in the context of breast cancer risk in women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and with menopause at a normal age. Women with Idiopathic POI, FMR-1 premutation or Turner syndrome, if left untreated, may have lower breast cancer risk compared to the healthy age-matched female population. These women should be treated with MHT until the age of 50, as the risk of breast cancer is equal to that of normally menstruating women.

Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pediatric obesity: consensus position statement of the Italian Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology and the Italian Society of Pediatrics.

The Italian Consensus Position Statement on Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention of Obesity in Children and Adolescents integrates and updates the previous guidelines to deliver an evidence based approach to the disease. The following areas were reviewed: (1) obesity definition and causes of secondary obesity; (2) physical and psychosocial comorbidities; (3) treatment and care settings; (4) prevention.The main novelties deriving from the Italian experience lie in the definition, screening of the cardiometabolic and hepatic risk factors and the endorsement of a staged approach to treatment.
