The authors discuss the contribution of the outstanding scientist, surgeon, health care organizer and academician Lev K. Bogush in development of original surgeries that saved ten thousands of patients with respiratory diseases. The main periods of phthisiatric surgery are described (no antibacterial drugs and limited technical possibilities of surgical treatment, defining the place of surgery after emergence of specific effective drug treatment, introduction of resection options, drug-resistant forms of disease in population).

[Non-standard long-term tracheal stenting with silicone endoprosthesis for cicatricial stenosis].

Endoscopic approach with recanalization and stenting is one of the methods for cicatricial tracheal stenosis. Major complications may occur if service life of stents is not observed. However, there are currently no clear timing for stenting.

[Surgery for complicated accessory lobe of the azygos vein].

Congenital anomalies of respiratory system are quite diverse and not all of them are subject to surgical treatment. One example is accessory lobe of the azygos vein. This anomaly usually has no clinical manifestations and requires only follow-up, as well as attention in surgery on the right half of the chest for some other disease.

Surgery for mediastinal tumors is still one of the most difficult in modern medicine. This is due to vital organs and various nature of tumors in this area. Teratomas are relatively rare among mediastinal tumors.
