The authors, after a survey on literature and an extensive epidemiological study on the problems of parkinsonism, report the results from their retrospective and prospective study on the incidence and clinical characteristics of diabetes mellitus, developed in the process of Parkinson's disease. Diabetes mellitus was established in 180 patients (7.77%) out of 2315 patients with parkinsonism studied from Sofia and the district of Lovetch.

The local action of adrenaline and acetylcholine was studied capillaroscopically and capillarographically in 30 patients with diencephalic disorders. An abnormal capillary reactivity was present difficult to affect by the action of specific irritant as adrenaline and acetylcholine. The problem of the atypical changes in capillaroscopic and capillarographic status under the action of adrenaline and acetylcholine is discussed with consideration given to the diencephalic disorders advanced--central and local.

The epidemiology of parkinsonism was systematically studied in details in Sofia, a city of 1,167,295 inhabitants. The critical date of the study was the 31st of December, 1983. During the period of 10 years from 1972 to 1982 the morbidity of parkinsonism was 165.
