Purpose: To survey the impact of directional reflectivity on structures within optical coherence tomography images in retinal pathology.
Methods: Sets of commercial optical coherence tomography images taken from multiple pupil positions were analyzed. These directional optical coherence tomography sets revealed directionally reflective structures within the retina.
The mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) is an emerging target in the field of alcohol research. The MR is a steroid receptor in the same family as the glucocorticoid receptor, with which it shares the ligand corticosterone in addition to the MR selective ligand aldosterone. Recent studies have shown correlations between central amygdala (CeA) MR expression and alcohol drinking in rats and macaques, as well as correlations between aldosterone and alcohol craving in individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD).

While clinical data has been useful in identifying similarities in the neurobiological bases of these disorders, preclinical models are essential for understanding the mechanism(s) by which stressors increase the risk for escalated alcohol consumption. The purpose of these studies was to examine if exposure of male Long-Evans rats to the synthetically derived predator odor 2,5-dihydro-2,4,5-trimethylthiazoline (TMT; a component of fox feces) would increase sweetened alcohol self-administration, potentially by facilitating transfer of salience towards cues, and alter neuronal response to alcohol as measured by the immediate early gene c-Fos.

When the Human Genome Project was completed in 2003, automated Sanger DNA sequencing with fluorescent dye labels was the dominant technology. Several nascent alternative methods based on older ideas that had not been fully developed were the focus of technical researchers and companies. Funding agencies recognized the dynamic nature of technology development and that, beyond the Human Genome Project, there were growing opportunities to deploy DNA sequencing in biological research.

Both ethanol (EtOH) exposure and the TLR3 agonist, poly(I:C), increase brain TLR3 expression in neurons and glia. Furthermore, previous studies have shown that cortical TLR3 expression is correlated with lifetime EtOH intake in humans.
