The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted communities worldwide, and effective management strategies are critical to reduce transmission rates and minimize the impact of the disease. In this study, we modeled and analyzed the COVID-19 transmission dynamics and derived relevant epidemiological values for three regions of the Philippines, namely, the National Capital Region (NCR), Davao City, and Baguio City, under different community quarantine implementations. The unique features and differences of these regions-of-interest were accounted for in simulating the disease spread and in estimating key epidemiological parameters fitted to the reported COVID-19 cases.

The European Union, as delineated in Regulation (EU) 2020/741, sets forth minimum criteria for the reuse of wastewater. Directive 86/278/CEE sets the regulations for the reuse of sewage sludge in agriculture. This study aimed to investigate the treated water derived from a pilot plant situated in Granada, Spain, that utilizes membrane bioreactor technology to process real urban wastewater with the quality standards necessary for agricultural reuse.

Persistent HGF/Met signaling drives tumor growth and dissemination. Proteoglycans within the tumor microenvironment might control HGF availability and signaling by affecting its accessibility to Met (HGF receptor), likely defining whether acute or sustained HGF/Met signaling cues take place. The extraordinary diversity of neuron types in the mammalian brain is delineated at the highest resolution by subtle gene expression differences that may require specialized molecular mechanisms to be maintained. Neurons uniquely express the longest genes in the genome and utilize neuron-enriched non-CG DNA methylation (mCA) together with the Rett syndrome protein, MeCP2, to control gene expression, but the function of these unique gene structures and machinery in regulating finely resolved neuron type-specific gene programs has not been explored. Here, we employ epigenomic and spatial transcriptomic analyses to discover a major role for mCA and MeCP2 in maintaining neuron type-specific gene programs at the finest scale of cellular resolution.
