The Role of TORS in the Management of Benign Pathology of the Base of Tongue: A Systematic Review.

Objective: Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) is becoming increasingly popular in head and neck surgery. Its applications have expanded beyond oncologic indications to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and, more recently, to benign pathologies.

Data Sources: A systematic search for articles published in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases between January 2003 and December 2023 was performed using the following combined search query (robot OR sleep OR apnea OR syndrome) AND (robot OR tongue OR base).

Surgical Tracheostomies: A Retrospective Chart Analysis Comparing ENT Specialists and Residents.

Aim: The primary aim of our retrospective chart review is to compare open surgical (OS) tracheostomies performed by specialist and supervised resident surgeons, focusing on surgical time and post-surgical complications. The secondary objective was to compare these data based on the years of surgical experience for both specialists and residents.

Methods: All patients undergoing surgical tracheostomy at the Unit of Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Department, University of Verona between 1 January 2017, and 31 December 2022, were subjected to a retrospective analysis.

Exclusive endoscopic tympanoplasty efficacy in the treatment of cholesteatoma without mastoid involvement.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the recurrence rate of cholesteatoma in patients who have undergone exclusive endoscopic tympanoplasty at our tertiary referral institution. A secondary objective is to analyze different clinical aspects that could be considered risk factors for recurrence to establish if it is possible to determine when a second-look procedure is indicated instead of a clinical follow-up.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed on patients who had undergone exclusive endoscopic tympanoplasty for cholesteatoma in the last eight years and who were followed up for at least one year.

The role of artificial intelligence in training ENT residents: a survey on ChatGPT, a new method of investigation.

Objective: The primary focus of this study was to analyze the adoption of ChatGPT among Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) trainees, encompassing its role in scientific research and personal study. We examined in which year ENT trainees become involved in clinical research and how many scientific investigations they have been engaged in.

Methods: An online survey was distributed to ENT residents employed in Italian University Hospitals.

Subtotal Petrosectomy: Pictorial Review of Clinical Indications and Surgical Approach.

Subtotal petrosectomy (STP) is characterized by obliteration of the middle ear and occlusion of the external auditory canal. The advent of the endoscope has allowed a reduction in morbidity for some conditions such as cholesteatoma and other middle ear disorders, but STP still plays an important role. A retrospective review of medical records and videos of patients who had undergone STP was performed.
