Pancreatic Choristoma in Omentum in Advanced CA Ovary: A Clinical Puzzle.

Ectopic pancreatic tissue is called pancreatic choristoma or heterotopia of pancreas. It is a rare entity. We present a case of advanced Ca ovary with omental pancreatic choristoma.

Semi-synthetic diet versus diet using natural ingredients-Comparative study in female Golden Syrian hamsters.

Semi-synthetic diets (SSD) are recommended and are widely used to carry out experiments in rodents. However, in our experiments planned to carry out generation studies in female Golden Syrian hamsters using semi-synthetic diets, it was observed that the hamsters did not conceive as a result of decreased food intake. In this paper, we present the effects of both semi-synthetic diets and natural source diets (NSD) on food intake, body weight and reproductive performance of this species.

Cervicovaginal inflammatory cytokines and sphingomyelinase in women with and without bacterial vaginosis.

Introduction: The objective is to analyze proinflammatory cytokines [interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α] and sphingomyelinase in women with bacterial vaginosis (BV), cervicitis and vaginitis.

Methods: From January 2009 to June 2010, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative, nonpregnant, married women, living with husband, aged 20 to 40 years were recruited from a slum at Hyderabad, India, after taking written consent. One hundred forty-six women including 61 women with BV, 47 women with intermediate flora and 38 women with normal vaginal flora were evaluated for local proinflammatory cytokines and sphingomyelinase.

Development of new genomic microsatellite markers from robusta coffee (Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner) showing broad cross-species transferability and utility in genetic studies.

Background: Species-specific microsatellite markers are desirable for genetic studies and to harness the potential of MAS-based breeding for genetic improvement. Limited availability of such markers for coffee, one of the most important beverage tree crops, warrants newer efforts to develop additional microsatellite markers that can be effectively deployed in genetic analysis and coffee improvement programs. The present study aimed to develop new coffee-specific SSR markers and validate their utility in analysis of genetic diversity, individualization, linkage mapping, and transferability for use in other related taxa.

Nonclinical toxicology study of recombinant-plasmid DNA anti-rabies vaccines.

The absence of standard guidelines from National and International regulatory agencies for the safety evaluation of biotechnology products challenges the ingenuity of toxicologists. At present, the development of standard pre-clinical toxicology protocols for such products is on an individual case basis. The present investigation is an attempt to evaluate the safety profile of the first indigenously developed DNA based anti-rabies vaccine in India.
