Eu activated ZnSiO red phosphor synthesized by pyrolysis technique at 1000ºC for one hour is reported. Upon excitation by 394 nm and 464 nm, the phosphor displays a distinct red emission peaking around 614 nm, a characteristic of f-f electronic transitions involving Eu ions.Incorporating alkali metal ions such as Li, Na and K into ZnSiO:Eu phosphor led to a remarkable increase in photoluminescence (PL) intensity.

The global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for mathematical models to inform public health strategies. The present study introduces a novel six-compartment epidemiological model that uniquely incorporates a higher isolation rate for unreported symptomatic cases of COVID-19 compared to reported cases, aiming to enhance prediction accuracy and address the challenge of initial underreporting. Additionally, we employ optimal control theory to assess the cost-effectiveness of interventions and adapt these strategies to specific epidemiological scenarios, such as varying transmission rates and the presence of asymptomatic carriers.

South Africa has grappled with recurring drought scenarios for over two decades, leading to substantial economic losses. Droughts in the Western Cape between 2015 and 2018, especially in Cape Town was declared a national disaster, resulting in the strict water rationing and the "day zero" effect. This study presents a set of simulations for predicting drought over South Africa using Artificial Neural Network (ANN), using Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) as the drought indicator in line with the recommendations of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

This work presents a quad-port Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) wideband antenna that operates in the terahertz (THz) frequency range is designed and analyzed. To improve MIMO performance, a defective ground structure (DGS) is used. A rectangular metallic patch was altered by adding parasitic elements to the radiator with the lowered ground plane on a polyamide substrate in order to achieve the wideband THz operating frequency.
