Article Synopsis
  • A significant number of patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) show indeterminate results from vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE), prompting the need for better diagnostic methods for significant fibrosis.
  • A large study, involving 1196 MASLD patients from various centers, developed an algorithm that used liver stiffness measurements (LSM) and controlled attenuation parameters (CAP) to accurately identify significant fibrosis.
  • The algorithm demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing significant fibrosis, potentially helping to identify treatment candidates for MASLD by re-allocating patients based on their risk levels.

The use of pyrethroids in aquaculture has been an important component of achieving a thriving salmon farming industry in Chile. While the residual presence of such substances is known to depend on environmental conditions, most ecotoxicological studies to date have not considered environmental context. Here, we conducted oceanographic monitoring combined with experiments aiming to estimate the effects of two pyrethroids on the feeding rates of larvae of farmed mussels, Mytilus chilensis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to understand the natural history and prognostic factors of porto-sinusoidal vascular disorder (PSVD) by analyzing a large cohort of 587 patients across 27 centers, finding that the majority were asymptomatic at diagnosis, but many experienced complications related to portal hypertension.
  • - Over a median follow-up of 68 months, 8.5% of patients underwent liver transplantation, while 19% died, highlighting significant risks like portal hypertension-related bleeding and ascites, as well as the impact of age and liver function on prognosis.
  • - The findings indicate that the severity of underlying conditions and liver/renal function significantly influence survival chances, leading to the development of a nomogram for more accurate prognosis prediction in
