Enigmatic phenomena have sparked the imagination of people around the globe into creating folkloric creatures. One prime example is Zana of Abkhazia (South Caucasus), a well-documented 19th century female who was captured living wild in the forest. Zana's appearance was sufficiently unusual, that she was referred to by locals as an Almasty-the analog of Bigfoot in the Caucasus.

The main advantages and disadvantages of the existing methods for the topical administration of drugs into the inner ear - intra-imperial and intra-labyrinth delivery are analyzed. A brief review of medicinal substances for topical administration to the inner ear, both widely used (for example, aminoglycosides, steroid drugs) and undergoing clinical trials, is given.

Previously, we showed that the West Nile virus capsid protein plays a role in this process by blocking apoptosis. In this study, we examined how expression of capsid proteins from several flaviviruses affects apoptosis and other host processes that impact virus replication.

Earlier, we attempted to utilize mutations found in the E protein of the SA14-14-2 vaccine to bring safety of W1806 to the level acceptable for human use (Yamshchikov et al., 2016).

Instead, we created highly attenuated chimeric virus W1806 with the serological identity of NY99. To further attenuate W1806, we investigated effects of mutations found in Japanese encephalitis virus vaccine SA14-14-2.
