The examination of the EEG and the REG prior to and after acupuncture in patients with trigeminal neuralgia revealed the characteristic changes in the bioelectrical activity of the brain and in the cerebral circulation. Following the treatment the pattern of these changes was shown to alter. The beneficial time-course of the EEG was predominant although rheoencephalographic indices were also normalized.

The study of serotonin levels in the blood of 49 patients with migraine and and migrainous headaches revealed both elevations and decreases in its concentrations as compared to the average physiological norm, which seems to be occasioned by various severity of the disease course. In the majority of patients in the period of disease exacerbation prior to the treatment, the initial concentrations of blood serotonin were lowered. Acupuncture normalizes increased and slightly decreased levels of serotonin which is in agreement with a good and stable clinical response.

Clinical and electrophysiological examinations of 255 children and adolescents with migraine were carried out. Some age peculiarities of the clinical picture and course of the disease were noted. As the treatment method electropuncture with the use of Soviet-made apparatus pep-1 was given to 80 patients.

Results of treating 166 patients from migraine by reflexotherapy methods (acupuncture, electropuncture, electroacupuncture) are presented along with the data of clinico-genealogical, electrophysiological (EEG, REG, OPG, ECG) and biochemical (serotonine, histamine, and dopamine blood levels) examinations performed prior to and after the reflexotherapy course. Recommendations for treating migraine with reference to the form, stage, intensity, and localization of the headache are given. A positive effect of the reflexotherapy was obtained in 95.

The authors analyse results of the treatment of 120 patients with vertebrogenic radicular pain syndromes by reflexotherapy, electropuncture, electroacupuncture and acupuncture, applied both alone and combined under conditions of a neurological department. Examination of the patients included a comprehensive analysis of neurological symptomatology and its variations in the time course of the treatment exercised according to a specially elaborated schedule of case history. Approaches to the choice of the most effective methods of reflexotherapy, depending on the extent of injury, intensity of the pain syndrome and the state of the vegetative nervous system are offered and the efficacy of the methods of reflexotherapy is clinically compared.
