The article deals with the problem of diagnosis of atherosclerotic alterations in abdominal aorta wall in order to reduce atherosclerosis-related mortality. Targeted treatment requires determining the exact mechanism of development of atherosclerosis. Infrared Fourier spectroscopy is suggested as the most rapid and accurate method of diagnosis and analysis of the content of various organic compounds playing a particular role in the development of the atherosclerotic process.

A relationship was found between the magnitude of a dystrophic process (hyperkeratosis) and higher blood LA levels with lower PO values that fail to achieve the level observed in the control group.

A relationship was established between the magnitude of the blood activity of the enzymes superoxide dismutase and catalase with a drop in the serum activity of alkaline phosphatase. At the same time, there was a correlation between the rate of development of onychodystrophy and the magnitude of a change in the activity of antioxidant defense enzymes.
