Due to increasing consumer awareness, there is a growing demand for healthy foods by replacing synthetic colorants with natural alternatives. Amaranthus is a sustainable rich source of one such natural colorant, namely, betalains. Conventional extraction methods have various challenges, such as high solvent requirements and low extraction yield.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute liver failure (ALF) is a critical condition that may require liver transplantation, with its main causes in India being viral, particularly hepatitis A which accounts for 44.2% of cases.
  • A study analyzed 183 ALF patients from four major hospitals in India between 2021 and 2023, highlighting the effectiveness of interventions such as plasma exchange (PLEx) and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), showing a low rate of liver transplants at only 3.8%.
  • Key predictors of mortality included advanced hepatic encephalopathy and meeting specific medical criteria at admission, suggesting the importance of early intervention and potential for improved outcomes with vaccination against hepatitis A.

Article Synopsis
  • MAFLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease) is becoming more common, and it can lead to serious liver problems called MAFLD-ACLF, but what affects patient recovery isn't fully known yet.
  • In a study, researchers looked at data from patients with MAFLD-ACLF to understand their health conditions and see who survived after 90 days, finding that about 51% of patients did survive.
  • They discovered new scoring systems to better predict survival, which included factors like diabetes and the causes of liver damage, and these new scores worked better than older ones.

In this research work, we have examined the influence of silver halide doping on the dielectric dispersion and AC conduction of elemental selenium. The in-depth investigation shows that when the dopant silver halides are incorporated, there are noticeable changes in the parent selenium's dielectric constant ('), dielectric loss (''), and AC conductivity ( ). When we frame the discussion of the obtained results with the relevant transport models, we found that in pure selenium and Se(AgI), conduction is primarily due to polaron hopping and follows the correlated barrier hopping (CBH) model.

There are numerous cases reported of the accessory muscles of the hand and wrist in surgical, cadaveric, and imaging-based studies. Anatomical muscle variations in the flexor compartment of the wrist and forearm can present as a pseudo mass or space-occupying lesion causing external compression on the traversing nerves. Guyon's canal is a compact space with a high potential for nerve entrapment.
