[New possibilities of correction of hypercholesterolemia in patients with diabetes mellitus].

This article presents scientific data to prove effect of statins on carbohydrate metabolism and the need to optimize hypolipidemic therapy in patients with diabetes. Systematized the available scientific data on the mechanism of action, parameters of hypolipidemic activity and the possibility of using policosanol. Author is giving us his own clinical experience with herbal drug FitoStatin (policosanol) in patients with diabetes based on 6-month follow-up.

Impact of hypoglycemia on daily life of type 2 diabetes patients in Ukraine.

This study evaluates the impact of hypoglycemia on the lives of Ukrainian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The secondary objective was to explore patient-physician relationships and the attitudes of patients towards various informational resources on diabetes management. Three focus groups with 26 patients were conducted.

[Epidemiology of thyroid diseases in iodine deficiency].

Prevalence was studied of thyroid pathology under conditions of a moderate iodine deficiency in the Kolomyya District of Ivano-Frankovsk Region. Both pediatric and adult population (n = 1245) was examined, residing in the villages of Markivka and Rungury. The prevalence of diffuse goiter among children less than 14 years of age came up to 63.

[The epidemiology and risk factors of diabetes mellitus in the region of the Ukrainian Carpathians].

The existent prevalence has been studied of diabetes mellitus (DM) in the territory of the Ukrainian Carpathians with special reference to DM types as well as climatic and geographic features of the region, according to the Saint Vincent Declaration Programme. As per 1st January, 1994, DM was diagnosed in 9321 patients, the index of DM prevalence (per 100,000) having been 866.1.
