The use of oxygenated perfluorocarbonic emulsion for initial in situ kidney perfusion.

Protection of grafts from ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) remains an important problem, especially in uncontrolled donors. This study was performed to define the effect of oxygenated perfluorocarbonic emulsion for initial in situ conservation. One hundred and seventeen kidney grafts were procured from 2003 until 2006 from sixty one DCDs of Maastricht II and IV category.

Machine perfusion as a tool to select kidneys recovered from uncontrolled donors after cardiac death.

The use of kidneys from uncontrolled donors after cardiac death (uDCD) remains disputable due to significant warm ischemia time (WIT) causing ischemia-reperfusion injuries. The aim of study was to use machine perfusion as a tool for preoperative selection and recovery of kidneys obtained from 22 uDCDs from December 2005 until July 2007. The results of transplantation of 21 pump-perfused kidneys (study group) were compared with 17 cold-stored kidneys (control group) from the same donors.

A missense mutation of C1659 in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 gene in Russian patients with hypochondroplasia.

To carry out the genetic screening for the common mutation in the first tyrosine kinase domain (TK1) of the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 gene (FGFR3) in a Russian population, a cohort of 16 patients with hypochondroplasia diagnosed previously were studied, among them twelve familial cases and four sporadic cases. The heterozygous N540K FGFR3 mutation was detected in 9 cases (56.3%) due to that C1659A substitution in 6 patients and C1659G substitution in 3 patients, respectively.
