Purpose: Significant disparities exist in cancer detection, treatment, and outcomes for racial/ethnic minoritized groups in the US. The objective of this study was to explore racial/ethnic disparities in healthcare utilization, cancer care experiences, and beliefs about cancer in patients diagnosed with cancer among diverse racial/ethnic groups in the US.
Methods: Data from the Health Information National Trends Survey -Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (HINTS-SEER 2021) were analyzed for 1,108 cancer survivors.
Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect in the United States, with many of the affected infants requiring surgical and/or interventional procedures within their first year of life. The parental impacts of a child's diagnosis, subsequent hospitalization, and transition to home after discharge are numerous and burdensome, and many experience symptoms of traumatic stress along this trajectory. The purpose of this scoping review was to summarize current available literature related to the traumatic stress experienced by parents of children with heart disease to better understand the prevalence, related factors, and consequences.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: Soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) and placental growth factor (PlGF), components of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) system, play key roles in angiogenesis. Reports of elevated plasma levels of sFlt-1 and PlGF in coronary heart disease and heart failure (HF) led us to investigate their utility, and VEGF system gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), as prognostic biomarkers in HF.
Methods And Results: ELISA assays for sFlt-1, PlGF and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) were performed on baseline plasma samples from the PEOPLE cohort (n = 890), a study of outcomes among patients after an episode of acute decompensated HF.
