Magnesium alloys are considered as promising materials for use as biodegradable implants due to their biocompatibility and similarity to human bone properties. However, their high corrosion rate in bodily fluids limits their use. To address this issue, amorphization can be used to inhibit microgalvanic corrosion and increase corrosion resistance.

Powders from this alloy were obtained by plasma sputtering and used for subsequent 3D printing of experimental samples. The effect of various selective laser melting (SLM) parameters on porosity and hot cracking susceptibility as well as the electrochemical characteristics of the alloy have been studied.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFixation screws and other temporary magnesium alloy fixation devices are used in orthopedic practice because of their biodegradability, biocompatibility and acceptable biodegradation rates. The substitution of dissolving implant by tissues during the healing process is one of the main requirements for biodegradable implants. Previously, clinical tests showed the effectiveness of Ga ions on bone tissue regeneration.

In this work, GO is used as an additive to the traditional phosphating solution of the widely used Russian low-carbon steel 08YU (DC04). The anticorrosion properties of the obtained phosphate coatings were investigated in neutral (0.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA linear combination of spherically symmetric heat sources is shown to provide optimal stationary thermal distribution in magnetic hyperthermia. Furthermore, such spatial location of heat sources produces suitable temperature distribution in biological medium even for assemblies of magnetic nanoparticles with a moderate value of specific absorption rate (SAR), of the order of 100-150 W/g. We also demonstrate the advantage of using assemblies of spherical magnetic nanocapsules consisting of metallic iron nanoparticles covered with non magnetic shells of sufficient thickness in magnetic hyperthermia.
