The aim of this study is to investigate the genotoxic effects of mixtures of five metals on zebrafish at two different concentrations; at the permissible maximum contamination levels in drinking water and irrigation waters. The drinking water limits are as follows: 300 µg/L for Aluminum (Al), 10 µg/L for Arsenic (As), 5 µg/L for Cadmium (Cd), 10 µg/L for Cobalt (Co), and 50 µg/L for Chromium (Cr). The irrigation water limits: 5000 µg/L for Al, 100 µg/L for As, 10 µg/L for Cd, 50 µg/L for Co, and 100 µg/L for Cr.

Arsenic (As) is toxic to plants and animals. We tested the effects of arsenite and arsenate (0-16 mg/L) on seed germination, and on relative root and shoot length, α-amylase activity, reducing sugars and soluble total protein contents, and malondialdehyde content in barley seedlings. We also measured As accumulation in barley stems and roots.

Fish were exposed to three different concentrations of lambda-cyhalothrin (LCT) (1×10(-4)μg/l, 2×10(-4)μg/l, 4×10(-4)μg/l) for periods of 6, 12, 24, and 48h. NA (notched, lobed, blebbed nuclei), MN, bi-nucleated cells, and the ratio of polychromatic erythrocytes (PCEs) to normochromatic erythrocytes (NCEs) were evaluated to assess genotoxicity and cytotoxicity.

The quantitative and qualitative fungal composition of the air and water of the Lake was surveyed monthly for a year (August 2000-July 2001). Water samples were taken at five different stations at Terkos Lake.
