In this paper, a method for the detection of norbixin and tartrazine in sugar by means of resonance Raman spectroscopy is presented. The extraction was done in four steps using methanol and the measurements were performed in aqueous solution. The excitation wavelength was 514 nm for norbixin and 488 nm for tartrazine samples.

A series of multifunctional (mercaptomethyl)silanes of the general formula type R(n)Si(CH(2)SH)(4-n) (n = 0-2; R = organyl) was synthesized, starting from the corresponding (chloromethyl)silanes. They were used as multidentate ligands for the conversion of dodecacarbonyltriiron, Fe(3)(CO)(12), into iron carbonyl complexes in which the deprotonated (mercaptomethyl)silanes act as μ-bridging ligands. These complexes can be regarded as models for the [FeFe] hydrogenase.

The complex [(dmcb)(2)Ru(dppz)](PF(6))(2) shows unexpected luminescence in water implying fundamentally different excited state relaxation pathways than are typically observed for complexes of this kind.

Ruthenium-polypyridine and related complexes play an important role as models for light-harvesting antenna systems to be employed in artificial photosynthesis. In this theoretical and experimental work, the first photoexcitation step of a tetranuclear [Ru2Pd2] complex composed of two ruthenium-bipyridyl subunits and two palladium-based fragments, {[(tbbpy)2Ru(tmbi)]2[Pd(allyl)]2}2+ (tbbpy = 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine, tmbi = 5,6,5',6'-tetramethyl-2,2'-bibenzimidazolate), is investigated by means of experimental and theoretical resonance Raman spectroscopy. The calculated spectra, which were obtained within the short-time approximation combined with time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT), reproduce the experimental spectrum with excellent agreement.

A detailed study on the excited-state-excitation migration taking place within the tetranuclear complex [{(tbbpy)(2)Ru(tmbi)}(2){Pd(allyl)}(2)](PF(6))(2) (tbbpy = 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine and tmbi = 5,6,5',6'-tetramethyl-2,2'-bibenzimidazolate) is presented. The charge transfer is initiated by the photoexcitation into the lowest metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) band of one of the peripheral ruthenium(II) chromophores and terminates on the central structurally complex Pd(2) (II)(allyl)(2) subunit. Thus, the system under investigation can be thought of as a functional model for the photosynthesis reaction center in plants.
