Background: This study aimed to investigate the mitigating effect of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on doxorubicin (DOX)-induced ovarian and uterine toxicity in rats using laboratory tests, ultrasonographic (US) imaging, and histopathology analysis.

Methods: Forty-eight rats were divided into six groups (n = 8) as follows: Group A (control) (0.5 mL saline administered intraperitoneally [IP]), Group B (a single 10 mg/kg dose of DOX administered IP on day 1), Group C (a single 10 mg/kg dose of DOX administered IP 24 h before sacrifice), Group D (100 mg/kg of NAC administered IP for 21 days), Group E ( a single 10 mg/kg dose of DOX administered IP on day 1 and 100 mg/kg of NAC administered IP for 21 days), and Group F (100 mg/kg of NAC administered IP for 21 days and a single 10 mg/kg dose of DOX administered IP 24 h before sacrifice).

Background: When pesticides are introduced into wetlands by agriculture, fish quickly absorb them through their gills. Pesticides reduce hatchability, impede growth, and antioxidant response, killing fish. Therefore, it's crucial to find effective pesticide mitigation methods for fish.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effects of edaravone on preventing damage from testicular torsion and detorsion in rats.
  • Rats were divided into three groups: a control group, a torsion/detorsion group, and a torsion/detorsion group that received edaravone treatment.
  • Results indicated that edaravone reduced oxidative stress and apoptosis markers, improved blood flow, and lessened histological damage in the affected testicles, suggesting it has protective benefits against testicular injury.

Donor anatomy is an essential part of donor selection and operative planning in living donor liver transplantation. In this study, variations of hilar structures, and the effects of variant anatomy on donor and recipient outcomes were evaluated. Living donor liver transplantations in a single center between January 2013 and December 2020 were retrospectively reviewed.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate whether pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy in addition to a conventional rehabilitation program is effective on pain and functioning in patients with type 1 complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS-1) of the hand.

Patients And Methods: Between March 2013 and January 2015, a total of 32 patients (16 males, 16 females; mean age: 50.1±13.

The hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) is the gold standard for cirrhotic portal hypertension (PHT), but it is invasive and specialized. Alternative non-invasive techniques are needed to assess the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG). Here, we develop an auto-machine-learning CT radiomics HVPG quantitative model (HVPG), and then we validate the model in internal and external test datasets by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) for HVPG stages (≥10, ≥12, ≥16, and ≥20 mm Hg) and compare the model with imaging- and serum-based tools.

We present a patient who had a common peroneal nerve palsy complication due to anti-embolism stocking compression following total hip arthroplasty (THA) surgery performed via the anterior approach (AA). The patient was a 17-year-old underweight female and have experienced bilateral hip pain for the last 3 years. Pelvic X-rays revealed bilateral osteonecrosis of the femoral head and THA surgery for the left hip via the AA was done.

Background And Aims: This study aimed to determine the performance of the non-invasive score using noncontrast-enhanced MRI (CHESS-DIS score) for detecting portal hypertension in cirrhosis.

Methods: In this international multicenter, diagnostic study (ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03766880), patients with cirrhosis who had hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) measurement and noncontrast-enhanced MRI were prospectively recruited from four university hospitals in China (=4) and Turkey (=1) between December 2018 and April 2019.

Objective: Behçet syndrome (BS) is a multisystemic chronic vasculitic disease. Among previous studies, although there are some that showed increased risk of subclinical atherosclerosis in BS, there are also others that showed the opposite. The objective of this study is to evaluate subclinical atherosclerosis in BS by using the cutoff value for intima-media thickness in the 2013 European Society of Cardiology/European Society of Hypertension guideline.

Article Synopsis
  • Vascular calcifications (VCs) are common in hemodialysis patients and linked to higher mortality rates; this study explored the connection between VCs and warfarin use in these patients.
  • The study included 76 hemodialysis patients, comparing 32 who had been on warfarin for over a year to 44 controls, and assessed VCs using specific scoring methods.
  • Results showed that warfarin users had significantly higher Kauppila scores (indicating more vascular calcification) compared to controls, suggesting an independent association between warfarin treatment and increased vascular calcifications in the aorta of hemodialysis patients.

Rationale And Objectives: The main aim of ultrasonography (US) examining thyroid nodules is to differentiate malignant nodules from benign nodules. Several professional societies and groups of investigators have defined guidelines such as Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TIRADS) to provide the standardized language and approach to thyroid nodules. This study is aimed to investigate the compatibility of such classification systems with the pathological diagnosis of nodules and evaluate the contribution of the Shear-wave elastography (SWE) and Doppler ultrasonography (DUS) findings.

Background: This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in Turkish men aged 60 years and older and the factors associated with AAA.

Methods: Through sixty-two family health centers located in the Kecioren district of Ankara, 239 male volunteers of the target age were recruited for this pilot study. The volunteers were scanned using B-mode ultrasonography.

Objectives: Medical textbooks suggest that the frequency of bowel sounds may be altered by performing auscultation after palpation or percussion. We hypothesize that the frequency of bowel sounds is not affected by the order of abdominal examination.

Material And Methods: Both healthy volunteers (n= 80) and patients (n= 100) were enrolled in this crossover randomized study.

Background & Aims: Noninvasive and accurate methods are needed to identify patients with clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH). We investigated the ability of deep convolutional neural network (CNN) analysis of computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) to identify patients with CSPH.

Methods: We collected liver and spleen images from patients who underwent contrast-enhanced CT or MR analysis within 14 days of transjugular catheterization for hepatic venous pressure gradient measurement.

Article Synopsis
  • Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHC) treatment is complex, with surgeons facing high perioperative mortality rates; hepatectomy is advised for patients with less than 30% future liver remnant (FLR) but may require modification for safety.
  • The modified Associating Liver Partition and Portal vein ligation for Staged Hepatectomy (ALPPS) procedure offers a minimally invasive approach, successfully implemented in two jaundiced patients without causing posthepatectomy liver failure.
  • Key technical elements include a minimally invasive first stage, effective biliary drainage, and careful reconstruction, resulting in a mean follow-up of 35 months without recurrence, suggesting this approach is viable for select PHC

Bedside lung ultrasonography (LUS) is a reliable method for the diagnosis of pneumonia. No common consensus exists in the literature regarding the effectiveness of LUS findings, except consolidation, for the diagnosis of pneumonia. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of LUS for the diagnosis of pneumonia, and the secondary objective was to investigate the use of LUS findings, except consolidation, for the diagnosis of pneumonia.

Background: Structural changes during lactation make breast physical examination difficult. When breast problems occur, patients are often referred for an ultrasound (US) scan. Most breast lesions diagnosed in these patients are benign, but the diagnosis of breast cancer is a challenge.
