Introduction: The origin and content of prolonged wound drainage (PWD) after arthroplasty remain uncertain. In this study, we performed the biochemical, biological and advanced proteomic analysis of the drainage fluid collected from PWD patients following hip hemiarthroplasty (HA).
Methods: Data of 28 patients who developed PWD after HA were prospectively analyzed.
The authors report herein the results of examination and surgical management of fifty-one patients presenting with cervical ribs. Of these, there were 33 women. Compression of the neurovascular bundle (NVB) was found to be caused by a supplementary cervical rib in twenty-three patients while in the remaining 28 patients by a rudimentary cervical rib.

This paper analyses the results of reoperations in 52 patients with thromboses (n=42) and aneurysms (n=10) of the reconstructed vessels. The main causes of their development were progression of vascular disease and suppuration of a surgical wound. No relationship was established between complications and the type of suture materials.

Sixty-two patients were admitted within 8 hours of injury and 20 within 8 to 24 hours, 24 patients within 1 to 15 days. Sixty-five patients had been rendered first aid at other medical institutions.

An examination and treatment of 32 patients with injured popliteal arteries are analyzed. Among the etiological factors there were gunshot wounds (16), crushed (4), punctured-incised (7) and blunt (7) traumas. Combined injuries of the popliteal vein were diagnosed in 12 patients, and injuries of the bones--in 16 patients.

Twenty-four patients presented with gunshot, 24 with stab and incised, 10 with contused and lacerated wounds, and 2 patients had blunt traumas. Thirty-nine patients were admitted to the clinic within the period as long as 8 hours since the time of wounding, 9 patients within 8 to 24 hours, and 12 patients within the period as long as one to 15 days.

As a result of examination of 20 healthy people by the method of ultrasound dopplerography normal values of blood flow in palmar arterial arch of the hand and digital arteries were established. In the course of examination by this method of 50 patients with various diseases of arteries of upper extremities hemodynamically responsible areas for lowering of blood flow were revealed. These were axileary artery, bifurcation of the brachial artery, both arteries of the forearm and arterial arch of the hand.

Analysis of the postoperative results of carotid endarterectomy under local anesthesia in 40 patients showed the possibilities of this type of anesthesia in evaluation of cerebral collateral circulation. The method allowed the use of temporary intraluminal shunt to be rejected in all patients and intraoperative ischemic complications on the part of the brain were not encountered in any of them. A high correlation between the results of EEG and the intraoperative evaluation of tolerance of the brain to ischemia was registered.

The operative tactics in this case was determined by the degree of affection of the peripheral vessels and the character of collateral circulation, which were appraised from the findings of the operative angiograms. According to this, all patients were divided into 4 groups.

Among the patients subjected to operation, 21 had echinococcosis, 6 had bronchiectasis, 4 had a chronic abscess, 3 had an acute abscess of the lungs complicated by pyothorax, 3 had bullous disease, 2 had bronchogenic cysts, and 2 patients had hemangiopericytoma and fibroma of the lungs. The authors claim that carbon dioxide laser shortens the duration of the operation, reduces intraoperative blood loss, ensures reliable hemo- and aerostasis, creates conditions for healing of the bronchial stump by first intention, facilitates maintenance of a large volume of the remaining lung segments, and produces an antiscolex effect in echinococcectomy++ from the lung.

The authors examined 46 patients with sequelae of injuries to the peripheral vessels: pulsatile hematoma (in 12), traumatic aneurysm (in 21), arteriovenous aneurysm (in 5), and disease of a ligated vessel (in 8). Operations were carried out on 45 patients. Favourable results were produced in 92.

The patients were divided into two groups: first--hydatid disease of the viscera (42) and second--hydatid disease of the subcutaneous fat and the muscles (10). The diagnosis of hydatid disease of the viscera of rare localization was established by a complex of methods (radiological, scanning, laboratory tests, and serological studies).

Plasmosorption was included in the complex of measures in 20 patients with obliterating endarteritis with different degrees of ischemia of lower extremities. Plasmosorption has been found to improve hemodynamics and microcirculation of diseased extremities, and to facilitate the reestablishment of the immune status, hemostasis and protein metabolism.

The authors evaluated the diagnostic significance of endoscopy of biliary tracts. The use of cholangioscopy allowed to better diagnose cholangiolithiasis which was found in 34 patients and to avoid leaving stones in the ducts, to diagnoze different forms of cholangitis (65 patients) and to find out the type and degree of constriction of biliary ducts.

The diagnostic and curative potentialities of the urgent endoscopy in acute gastrointestinal hemorrhages was assessed in 150 patients who were subjected to 208 examinations. The cause of hemorrhage was found out in 94,6%. An original method of sclerosing injections into hemorrhagic veins was used in patients with portal hypertension in order to stop the hemorrhage from varicose formations of the esophagus.
