Background: A new classification called OXIS was proposed for categorizing the interproximal contacts of primary molars, modified for the primary canines and its prevalence was established. No such information is available for the permanent dentition. Hence, the aim was to establish the variations in interproximal contacts of the permanent dentition and thereby modify the OXIS classification of primary molars and primary canines to the permanent dentition.

Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, there remains evidence of a disparity in the outcomes for women when compared with men. This article provides a review of the evidence for this discrepancy and discusses some of the potential contributing factors.

High pressure (up to ∼2.2 GPa) Raman scattering studies were performed in carbon tetrachloride (CCl) under static and dynamic compressions using diamond anvil cell (DAC) and laser-driven shock methods, respectively, and their results are compared. The laser-driven shock experiments were conducted in a glass-confined target geometry.

Purpose: For patients with end stage lung disease, lung transplantation (LT) remains the only definitive treatment option. Long term survival post LT is limited by acute and chronic allograft dysfunction. Antibodies to lung self-antigens Kα1Tubulin and collagen V (autoantibodies) have been implicated in adverse outcomes post LT.

Shock-wave-induced high pressure and nanosecond time-resolved Raman spectroscopic experiments were performed to examine the dynamic response of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in confinement geometry targets. Time-resolved Raman spectroscopy was used to observe the pressure-induced molecular and chemical changes on nanosecond time scale. Raman spectra were measured as a function of shock pressure in the 1.

Moraxella catarrhalis, a less virulent microorganism that colonizes the upper respiratory tract, has recently been associated with lower respiratory disease, especially in HIV-positive immunocompromised individuals and children. Here, we correlated the DNA clustering pattern of 24 clinical isolates of M. catarrhalis for β-lactamase production and drug resistance, from different disease groups using three different arbitrarily selected primers, P1 (5'-TCACGATGCA-3'), P14 (5'-GATCAAGTCC-3') and P17 (5'-GATCTGACAC-3').

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD) is an inherited condition characterised by fibrofatty replacement of the right ventricle. It causes sudden death in 30% of young adults and in 5% of those less than 65 years of age. As the presentation is non-specific, ARVD can be a diagnostic challenge leading to delayed treatment.

We present a case of persistent atrial fibrillation induced by a low-voltage electric shock reverting back to sinus rhythm after a similar repeat shock.

Idiopathic Infantile Arterial Calcification (IIAC) is a rare syndrome of unknown cause characterized by disruption and calcification of the internal elastic laminae of fetal arteries with calcium deposits leading to fibrosis and occlusion of the arteries. The diagnosis is often made at post-mortem examination. However, in a few cases it has been detected prenatally as in this case.

Aims: We conducted a prospective observational study using a course of steroids and antihistamines to treat a cohort of patients who developed skin reactions to clopidogrel, to assess whether dual antiplatelet therapy could be continued in an outpatient setting.

Methods And Results: This study included 2,701 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at our centre over a 23 month period. Patients with skin reactions to clopidogrel were identified and then commenced on five days oral prednisolone (30 mg/od) and chlorpheniramine (4 mg/tds) for seven days.

Opportunistic infections (OIs) are the leading cause of mortality and morbidity among HIV-positive subjects. The breadth of reports of the rare occurrence of OIs in HIV/AIDS has been increasing over the years and more recent studies have outlined the changing trends in the emergence of newer pathogens. Recent reports of the association of certain protozoans that normally do not infect sites other than their normal sites of localization have generated huge interest among scientists.
