This study used a dataset of 30 years (1990-2020) of daily observations from 24 meteorological stations in the northern highlands of Pakistan to assess trends in extreme precipitation indices. The RClimDex model was used to analyze the indices, and the Modified Mann-Kendal test and the Theil-Sen slope estimator were applied to determine trends and slopes, respectively. The results showed a significant decrease in total annual precipitation amount (PRCPTOT) with varying rates of negative trend from -4.

Erosion of the elbow due to non-Newtonian viscous slurry flows is often observed in hydrocarbon transportation pipelines. This paper intends to study the erosion behavior of double offset U-bends and 180° U-bends for two-phase (liquid-sand) flow. A numerical simulation was conducted using the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) on carbon steel pipe bends with a 40 mm diameter and an R/D ratio of 1.

Erosive wear due to the fact of sand severely affects hydrocarbon production industries and, consequently, various sectors of the mineral processing industry. In this study, the effect of the elbow geometrical configuration on the erosive wear of carbon steel for silt-water-air flow conditions were investigated using material loss analysis, surface roughness analysis, and microscopic imaging technique. Experiments were performed under the plug flow conditions in a closed flow loop at standard atmospheric pressure.

AISI 316L stainless steel (SS) is one of the extensively used biomaterials to produce implants and medical devices. It provides a low-cost solution with ample mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility compared to its counterpart materials. However, the implants made of this material are subjected to a short life span in human physiological conditions leading to the leaching of metal ions, thus limiting its use as a biomaterial.

Double strap lap adhesive joints between metal (AA 6061-T6) and composite (carbon/epoxy) laminates were fabricated and characterized based on strength. Hand layup methods were used to fabricate double strap match lap joints and double strap mismatch lap joints. These joints were compared for their strength under static and fatigue loadings.

The finite element analysis technique was used to investigate the suitability of silver nanorods, spheres, ellipsoids and core−shell structures for the hyperthermia treatment of cancer. The temperature of the silver nanostructures was raised from 42 to 46 °C, in order to kill the cancerous cells. The time taken by the nanostructures to attain this temperature, with external source heating, was also estimated.

Pure TiO nanoparticles (TiONPs) were produced via the sol-gel method and then coated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to reduce their optical band gap. The concurrent synthesis and immobilization of AgNPs over TiONPs was achieved through the interaction of an open-air argon plasma jet with a solution of silver nitrate/stabilizer/TiONPs. The one-pot plasma synthesis and coating of AgNPs over TiONPs is a more straightforward and environmentally friendly method than others.

Various conventional approaches have been reported for the synthesis of nanomaterials without optimizing the role of synthesis parameters. The unoptimized studies not only raise the process cost but also complicate the physicochemical characteristics of the nanostructures. The liquid-plasma reduction with optimized synthesis parameters is an environmentally friendly and low-cost technique for the synthesis of a range of nanomaterials.

The powder metallurgy (PM) technique has been widely used for producing different alloy compositions by the addition of suitable reinforcements. PM is also capable of producing desireable mechanical and physical properties of the material by varying process parameters. This research investigates the addition of titanium and niobium in a 316L stainless steel matrix for potential use in the biomedical field.

Downsizing in engine size is pushing the automotive industry to operate compressors at low mass flow rate. However, the operation of turbocharger centrifugal compressor at low mass flow rate leads to fluid flow instabilities such as stall. To reduce flow instability, surface roughness is employed as a passive flow control method.
