Article Synopsis
  • Heavy metal contamination in water, particularly from lead, poses significant environmental dangers, prompting the development of innovative solutions.
  • This study created nanofibers by combining zeolite and multi-walled carbon nanotubes with polyacrylonitrile through needleless electrospinning, aiming for effective lead ion adsorption.
  • Results showed that the optimized conditions led to an impressive lead removal efficiency of 84.75%, confirming the potential of these nanofibers as effective wastewater adsorbents through specific adsorption characteristics and thermodynamic evaluation.

Herein, the fabrication of electrospun nanocomposites, using polyacrylonitrile nanofibers (PNF) modified with nano-bentonite and fly ash, is explained. Further, the use of electrospun adsorbent for the remediation of Pb (II) ions from water has been explored. Pristine PNF and nanocomposites were characterized using SEM, EDX, and FTIR to analyze surface topology, elemental composition, and functional groups, respectively.
