Background: Retrograde intramedullary nailing is commonly performed to stabilize distal femoral shaft fractures which may lead to iatrogenic injuries of the knee articular cartilage. The limited regenerative capability of cartilage may further be hindered by intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which are usually advised for injuries of the musculoskeletal system. Purpose: Bullying, harassment, and discrimination (BHD) are prevalent in academic, scientific, and clinical departments, particularly orthopedic surgery, and can have lasting effects on victims. As it is unclear how BHD affects musculoskeletal (MSK) researchers, the following study assessed BHD in the MSK research community and whether the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused hardships in other industries, had an impact.

Methods: A web-based anonymous survey was developed in English by ORS Spine Section members to assess the impact of COVID-19 on MSK researchers in North America, Europe, and Asia, which included questions to evaluate the personal experience of researchers regarding BHD.

A 9-year-old girl presented with malunited Salter-Harris type I fracture of distal femur treated by bone-setter (unreliable-practitioner). Assessment revealed 3 cm limb-length-discrepancy and affected leg was unable to bear weight, knee was stiff with no active-range of motion; radiographs showed displaced sagittally malunited femoral condyle with 163° posterior distal femoral angle (PDFA).
