During the period 2003-2004, 110 samples of sewage sludge were examined from 18 treatment plants located in the territory of the whole of Poland, the majority in the Lublin Province. Samples of fermented and dehydrated sewage sludge were taken from sludge drying beds. The bacteriological and parasitological determinations covered bacteria of the Salmonella genus and eggs of the helminths Ascaris spp.

The results of studies concerning the levels of heavy metals (chromium, zinc, cadmium, nickel and lead) in soils of allotment gardens in post-flooded industrialized areas of the Opole Region, conducted during the period 2000-2001 was presented. Spectrophotometric method was applied for the determination of heavy metals in soils. The results of the study show that the levels of chromium, zinc and cadmium in the soils examined are constantly decreasing.
