Quantum oscillations originating from the quantization of electron cyclotron orbits provide sensitive diagnostics of electron bands and interactions. We report on nanoscale imaging of the thermodynamic magnetization oscillations caused by the de Haas-van Alphen effect in moiré graphene. Scanning by means of superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)-on-tip in Bernal bilayer graphene crystal axis-aligned to hexagonal boron nitride reveals large magnetization oscillations with amplitudes reaching 500 Bohr magneton per electron in weak magnetic fields, unexpectedly low frequencies, and high sensitivity to superlattice filling fraction.

Objective: The Community Rehabilitation of Persons with Mental Health Disability Law (2000a) is one of Israel's most important pieces of social legislation. It grants persons with psychiatric disabilities the right to receive rehabilitation in the community. This article is a case study of the development and implementation of a policy that led to the Rehabilitation Reform and that has become an important component in Israel's comprehensive mental health reform.

We propose magic-angle helical trilayer graphene (HTG), a helical structure featuring identical rotation angles between three consecutive layers of graphene, as a unique and experimentally accessible platform for realizing exotic correlated topological states of matter. While nominally forming a supermoiré (or moiré-of-moiré) structure, we show that HTG locally relaxes into large regions of a periodic single-moiré structure realizing flat topological bands carrying nontrivial valley Chern number. These bands feature near-ideal quantum geometry and are isolated from remote bands by a very large energy gap, making HTG a promising platform for experimental realization of correlated topological states such as integer and fractional quantum anomalous Hall states.

Conversion of electric current into heat involves microscopic processes that operate on nanometer length scales and release minute amounts of power. Although central to our understanding of the electrical properties of materials, individual mediators of energy dissipation have so far eluded direct observation. Using scanning nanothermometry with submicrokelvin sensitivity, we visualized and controlled phonon emission from individual atomic-scale defects in graphene.

Purpose is to present the mental health rehabilitation reform enacted in Israel in 2000, and to analyze the challenges it faces in its second decade of implementation. Lessons are drawn with regard to other jurisdictions interested in reforming mental health services. We present a new nanoscale superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) whose interference pattern can be shifted electrically in situ. The device consists of a nanoscale four-terminal-four-junction SQUID fabricated at the apex of a sharp pipet using a self-aligned three-step deposition of Pb. In contrast to conventional two-terminal-two-junction SQUIDs that display optimal sensitivity when flux biased to about a quarter of the flux quantum, the additional terminals and junctions allow optimal sensitivity at arbitrary applied flux, thus eliminating the magnetic field "blind spots".

This column describes an innovative, government-sponsored, countrywide mental health reform focusing on rehabilitation and community integration of persons with serious mental illness, which was enacted into law in Israel in 2000. The reform was part of the country's efforts to shift the locus of treatment and care from psychiatric institutions to the community. The authors review preliminary evidence of the impact of reform and offer cautionary notes regarding the future direction of its implementation.

This study assessed efforts to reform the mental health (MH) service system in Israel, moving the locus of treatment and care from a mental hospital system to the community. It focuses on changes which occurred in MH policy and services especially during the last decade, evaluating trends and issues regarding legislation, clients, budgets and personnel of the system. Findings indicate a drastic decline in the number of psychiatric beds, length of stays in inpatient services, a reduction in the number of MH personnel, and a dramatic increase in rehabilitation services in the community.
