Vertebral body tethering (VBT) uses a flexible tether affixed across the curve convexity with tension applied at each segment to treat scoliosis. Intraoperative tether tension may be achieved directly with a counter-tensioner or with an extension spring tube. The purpose of this study was to quantify the force generated with and without the extension spring tube using current FDA-approved VBT instrumentation, to understand the variation between surgeons using the same instrumentation, and to define the force range that is generated intra-operatively.

The primary objective of this study was to develop a custom algorithm to assess three-dimensional (3D) acetabular coverage of the femoral head based on surface models generated from computed tomography (CT) imaging. The secondary objective was to apply this algorithm to asymptomatic young adult hip joints to assess the regional 3D acetabular coverage variability and understand how these novel 3D metrics relate to traditional two-dimensional (2D) radiographic measurements of coverage. The algorithm developed automatically identifies the lateral- and medial-most edges of the acetabular lunate at one-degree intervals around the acetabular rim based on local radius of curvature.

While it is well-established that early detection and initiation of treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is crucial to successful clinical outcomes, research on the mechanics of the hip joint during healthy and pathological hip development in infants is limited. Purpose: To identify 3D measures of scoliosis from preoperative imaging that are associated with optimal radiographic outcomes after selective thoracic fusion (STF) for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).

Methods: Subjects with primary thoracic curves (Lenke 1-4, B or C modifiers) fused selectively (L1 or above) who had preoperative 3D reconstructions and minimum 2 years of follow-up were included. Introduction: We conducted a randomized controlled trial comparing fiberglass short leg casts with traditional cast padding to similar casts with water-resistant cast padding and recorded the opinion of the patient/caregiver and Orthopaedic Technicians (Ortho Techs) that applied and removed the casts.

Methods: Subjects with an injury that would be treated with a short leg cast were enrolled and randomized into a traditional cast or a water-resistant cast. Following cast application, the Ortho Tech that applied the cast completed a questionnaire asking their opinion on ease of application, moldability, padding level, and time taken for application.

Background: Minimal pain and opioid use after operative treatment for pediatric supracondylar humeral fractures have been previously described; however, opioid-prescribing practices in the United States remain variable. We hypothesized that children without an opioid prescription would report similar postoperative pain compared with children prescribed opioids following closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP) of supracondylar humeral fractures.

Background: Patients with antibody deficiency respond poorly to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination and are at risk of severe or prolonged infection. They are given long-term immunoglobulin replacement therapy (IRT) prepared from healthy donor plasma to confer passive immunity against infection. Following widespread COVID-19 vaccination alongside natural exposure, we hypothesized that immunoglobulin preparations will now contain neutralizing severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike antibodies, which confer protection against COVID-19 disease and may help to treat chronic infection.
