Background: Hyponatremia associated with a low serum osmolality is a common and confounding electrolyte disorder. Correcting hyponatremia is also complicated, especially in the setting of chronic hyponatremia. Here, we provide a rational approach to accurately detecting and safely treating acute on chronic euvolemic hyponatremia in the setting of acute polydipsia with a chronic reset osmostat.

Prevalence of pain and its treatment among older adults in India: a nationally representative population-based study.

There were no estimates of the prevalence of pain and its treatment in the older population of India obtained from face-to-face interviews with a nationally representative sample. We addressed this evidence gap by using data on 63,931 individuals aged 45 years and older from the 2017/2018 Longitudinal Ageing Study in India. We identified pain from an affirmative response to the question: Are you often troubled by pain? We also identified those who reported pain that limited usual activities and who received treatment for pain.

Background: There are no existing practices or methods to ensure cleanliness, sterility, or prevent cross-contamination when it comes to common operating room (OR) tape. The authors hypothesized that adhesive tapes used by anesthesia providers in ORs and off-site surgical areas might be colonized by microorganisms and that culturing these tape rolls would reveal significant monomicrobial and polymicrobial contamination.  Material and Methods: The primary objective of this observational cohort study was to report and compare contamination rate including polymicrobial contamination rate between tape specimens collected from storage site and specimen from the ORs, off-sites, and after use on a patient.

Erector spinae blocks (ESBs) are a type of fascial pain block that has been safely used for various applications, including post-operative and post-trauma pain in several thoracic and abdominal surgeries. Pain related to an acute flare-up of chronic pancreatitis is usually challenging to control and impacts patient comfort and discharge planning. This case report describes an application of ESBs for the effective treatment of refractory abdominal pain associated with acute exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis.

Online survey to assess computer vision syndrome in children due to excessive screen exposure during the COVID 19 pandemic lockdown.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, the normal daily routine activities of children were restricted as a result of the need to stay indoors. Consequently, children were forced to attend online classes provided by their educational institutions at their homes. Due to the subsequent increased screen exposure, children have started complaining of blurred vision, headache, and symptoms related to computer vision syndrome (CVS), predisposing them to myopia.

CD34 negative HLA-DR negative acute myeloid leukaemia: A higher association with NPM1 and FLT3-ITD mutations.

Introduction: CD34 and HLA-DR negativity is often used as a characteristic immunophenotypic feature of acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL) that differentiates APL from other subtypes of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). However, other subtypes of AML, without expression of CD34 and HLA-DR antigens, have also been reported.

Methods: We analysed the HLA-DR negative de novo non-APL AML cases by dividing HLA-DR negative non-APL group into 2 sub-groups based on CD34 expression and compared the characteristics of CD34 negative HLA-DR negative with CD34 positive HLA-DR negative non-APL AML cases with respect to morphologic, immunophenotypic, molecular and clinical parameters.

Selenium-derived electrocatalysts have been well explored for electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reactions to mimic hydrogenase-like activity; however, the stability of these synthetic mimics is yet to be enhanced. In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of a series of 1,10-phenanthroline-cobalt(II) phenolate selenoether complexes using 1,10-phenanthroline and 6-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline-Co(II)-dichloride and substituted bis-selenophenolate ligands. The synthesized cobalt(II) phenolate selenoether complexes have been characterized by CHN analysis, mass spectrometry, single crystal XRD, and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy.

Rare case of ankylosing spondylitis complicated by IgA vasculitis.

Ankylosing spondylosis (AS) is characterised by bilateral sacroiliitis, asymmetric peripheral oligoarthritis, association with the human leucocyte antigen-B27, enthesitis and dactylitis. The association of IgA vasculitis with AS has been documented in few case reports. We present a rare case of a man in his 40s with AS, who presented with fever, bloody loose stools, abdominal pain, lower limb arthritis, palpable purpura over the lower limbs.

Multivariate analysis of grain amaranth ( spp.) accessions to quantify phenotypic diversity.

Twelve amaranth accessions were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications in the research field of the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Lamjung, Sundarbazar, Lamjung, Nepal from March to July 2021 to assess the phenotypic diversity. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) showed that only two principal components were significant with their eigenvalues >1 and combinedly accounted for 88.3% of the total variance.

Introduction: Data on the impact of desmoid type fibromatosis (DTF) on emotional distress and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is sparse.

Methodology: In this prospective cross-sectional study, patients with DTF and healthy controls were asked to fill the EORTC QLQ-C30, GAD-7, and PHQ-9 questionnaires. The objectives were to determine HRQoL, anxiety, and depression in patients with DTF.

Type-I interferons (IFN-I) are critical mediators of innate control of viral infections, but also drive recruitment of inflammatory cells to sites of infection, a key feature of severe COVID-19. Here, and for the first time, IFN-I signaling was modulated in rhesus macaques (RMs) prior to and during acute SARS-CoV-2 infection using a mutated IFNα2 (IFN-modulator; IFNmod), which has previously been shown to reduce the binding and signaling of endogenous IFN-I. In SARS-CoV-2-infected RMs, IFNmod reduced both antiviral and inflammatory ISGs.
