Introduction: Breast cancer is still a serious health problem in 21st century and diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of this malignant disease are subject to many research. While cancer research has been focused on tumour cells primarily, recent studies showed that tumour stroma contribute to carcinogenesis as well as tumour cells. Especially fibroblasts adjacent to epithelial tumour cells are not ordinary fibroblasts and play the critical role.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the usability of MUC1 and p53 for differential diagnosis of noninvasive papillary urothelial neoplasias, especially for distinguishing papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential (PUNLMP) from low-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma (LGPUC) when the histologic signs are not obvious.

Materials And Methods: Seventeen biopsy specimens of the patients with PUNLMP, 20 with LGPUC and 13 with high-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma (HGPUC) were stained for MUC1 and p53 protein by immunohistochemical methods. Histological grading was performed according to an algorithm, which allows histological parameters used in 2004 WHO/ISUP 1998.

Article Synopsis
  • Encapsulated peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is a serious complication of long-term peritoneal dialysis characterized by inflammation, and this study looked at how abatacept could help treat it in a rat model.
  • Twenty-four rats were divided into four groups to analyze the effects of isotonic saline, chlorhexidine gluconate, and abatacept on peritoneal thickness, fibrosis, and inflammation over a six-week period.
  • The results showed that the group receiving abatacept had significantly lower inflammation, fibrosis, and levels of certain proteins (MMP-2 and TGF-β1) compared to the other treatment groups, suggesting that abatacept may be a promising new option for treating EPS.
