Mast cells are widely distributed in various organs. Two classes of mast cells, the mucosal mast cell (MMC) and the connective tissue mast cell (CTMC), have been shown to exist in the intestine of experimental animals. In the present study, we investigated the method of staining suitable for observing the mast cells distributing in the nasal mucosa, and also examined by the use of two fixatives whether the mast cells have properties of MMC or those of CTMC.

MRI showed another mediastinal mass between IVC and descending aorta with high T1 and T2 intensity. Thoracic CT done before MRI missed the latter lesion because only upper mediastinal scanning had been performed.

They were in advanced stage of rapidly developed cardiac failure with resistance to drug therapy and with ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation. Cardiac failure was improved immediately in the 3 cases after the operation and the effectiveness by the pacing was recognized for a long term observation (4 months to 2 years).

The patient was a 65-year-old female, who admitted to the hospital 3 hours after the onset of severe back pain. Enhanced CT of the chest and abdomen revealed acute dissection of the ascending aorta from its origin to the bilateral common iliac arteries.

Effects of neurotensin (NT) applied via the blood vessel on the responses to stimulation of Remak's nerve (RNS) were investigated in the chicken isolated and perfused rectums. NT (5 ng-2 micrograms/ml) produced a concentration-dependent inhibition of the constituent contraction but not relaxation of the responses to RNS. In addition, high concentrations of NT (over 80 ng/ml) produced a contraction of the rectal muscle.

The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1.

The function of the parotid gland is originally the secretion of saliva, but this is generally compensated for by the remaining major and minor salivary glands. Therefore, postoperative dysfunction involves possible facial palsy, deformity of the face and Frey's syndrome due to extirpated gland parenchyma and surrounding tissues.

We attempted to analyse a relationship between idiopathic peripheral facial paralysis and climate. One hundred and thirty-seven patients, 76 female and 61 male, were studied. The occurrence was not correlated with the mean temperature, mean humidity or mean atmospheric pressure.

Surgical techniques of the recurrent cases were more complicated and difficult and often required plastic and reconstructive procedures for the skin, tissue and nerve defects. From the experiences mainly of the recurrent tumors, it was concluded that uniformly applied superficial or total parotidectomy was not always necessary but modified parotidectomy resecting sufficient and adequate tissues around the tumor should be planned individually from the prudent preoperative examinations.

The measurements used were time intervals from the onset of the aortic component of the second heart sound (IIA) to the onset of the posterior deflection of the posterior aortic wall in the aortic root echocardiogram (X) (IIA-X interval), and to the onset of the most rapid opening motion of the anterior mitral leaflet (D') (IIA-D' interval) during early diastole. 1.

The technique and principle of the active anterior rhinomanometry were justified by human examination and model experiment. The resistance values obtained from anterior method did not always agree with those from posterior one. Causes of the disagreement were considered to be distortion of the nostrils, air leakage from the apparatus and resistive component in the nasopharynx.

To understand a disequilibrium of the peripheral vestibular disorders, we tried to analyze the body sway evoked by unilateral or bilateral caloric stimulation with warm and cold water systematically. As for postural deviation, the results of our study are summarized as follows. Unilateral warm stimulation evokes heterolateral and anterior postural deviation.
