Background: Thermal denaturation and monotonic mechanical damage alter the organic and water-related compartments of cortical bone. These changes can be detected using Raman spectroscopy. However, less is known regarding Raman sensitivity to detect the effects of cyclic fatigue damage and allograft sterilization doses of gamma radiation.

Background: In patients with NAFLD, there is an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Selenoprotein P (SelP), a hepatokine, is associated with insulin resistance (IR) and serum SelP was found to be elevated in patients with NAFLD.

Aim: This study aimed to determine the risk of CVD in NAFLD patients and the association of serum SelP levels with this NAFLD related CVD risk.

Extracellular calcium ([Ca ] ) concentration has been suggested to stimulate osteoblastic activity; thus, calcium can be used to enhance fracture healing. However, systemic administration of calcium at high dose levels may cause physiological problems such as hypercalcaemia. Short-span application of single or repetitive [Ca ] stimulus may be suggested as a novel regimen to reduce such side effects.

Aim: This research was aimed to investigate the in vivo and in vitro performance of traditional and novel methods in the detection of occlusal caries in primary teeth.

Materials And Methods: One hundred twenty primary molar teeth were assessed by two examiners both in vivo using ICDAS II, radiographic examination, DIAGNOdent pen, CarieScan PRO and SoproLife camera and in vitro using the mentioned diagnostic methods except radiographic examination. In addition, in vitro examinations were repeated 2 weeks later.

Os subtibiale is a rare accessory ossicle located at the tip of the medial malleolus. Although this small ossicle usually has no clinical significance, in some cases it may be a source of ankle pain. Symptomatic os subtibiale is an extremely rare diagnosis, and few cases have been reported to date.

Molecular cytogenetic analysis reveals the existence of two independent neo-XY sex chromosome systems in Anatolian Pamphagidae grasshoppers.

Background: Neo-XY sex chromosome determination is a rare event in short horned grasshoppers, but it appears with unusual frequency in the Pamphagidae family. The neo-Y chromosomes found in several species appear to have undergone heterochromatinization and degradation, but this subject needs to be analyzed in other Pamphagidae species. We perform here karyotyping and molecular cytogenetic analyses in 12 Pamphagidae species from the center of biodiversity of this group in the previously-unstudied Anatolian plateau.

Background: Morbidity and mortality rates due to cardiovascular diseases are more common in acromegalic patients than the healthy population. Platelets play a significant role in both the onset and progression of clotting which then cause the development of atherosclerotic plaques. Increased mean platelet volume (MPV) is an indicator of platelet activation and known as an independent risk factor for atherosclerotic processes.

A case of Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome with peculiar dental findings.

Background: Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS, OMIM 130650) is a rare genetic disorder characterised by overgrowth, tumor predisposition and congenital malformations. Few systemic manifestations and oral features have been reported so far.

Case Report: We report on a case of BWS, describing all features expanding the knowledge on oro-dento-facial phenotypes, along with a review of the literature.

The higher classification of the family is reviewed mainly based on the male phallic complex as well as the traditional and some new external characters.

Evaluation of mental foramen location in the 10-70 years age range using cone-beam computed tomography.

Introduction: Mental foramen (MF) locations were determined according to gender and age in terms of the vertical distance from the surrounding anatomical structures and the vertical and horizontal size of the MF.

Materials And Methods: One hundred-seven male and 103 female patients in the age group between 10 and 70 years were included in our retrospective study and were examined using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The right and the left MF locations were determined from panoramic and cross-sectional images.

Stapler Esophageal Closure During Total Laryngectomy.

Mechanical esophageal closure with stapler during total laryngectomy has been used by various authors to decrease the surgical time and pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) rates. In a few of the studies, surgical site infection (SSI) rates are mentioned and none of the studies emphasize the effect of decreased surgical time on postoperative cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications. In this study, the authors compared the PCF rates, SSI rates, operation times between 30 mechanical stapler and 40 manual esophageal closure during total laryngectomy for laryngeal cancer patients.

Treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head with free vascularized fibular grafting: Results of 7.6-year follow-up.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine long term follow up of the patients who had femoral head osteonecrosis and had been treated with free vascularized fibular grafting.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 28 hips of 21 patients who had undergone free vascularized fibular grafting for the treatment of osteonecrosis of femoral head. There were 16 male and 5 female patients.

To achieve anatomic restoration, surgical stabilization provides better results than conservative treatment. A unique case of isolated sebaceous adenoma of the bulbar conjunctiva.

Our patient was a 34 year-old male who presented with a painless conjunctival mass that had developed 3 months before his first visit. On performing slit-lamp biomicroscopy, a lobulated pink-yellowish solid mobile mass was observed on the nasal bulbar conjunctival surface of his left eye. The tumor was excised, and histopathologic examination of the tumor revealed a sebaceous adenoma.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is thought to result from decreased T helper type 2 (Th2) responses, leading to the progressive destruction of thyrocytes. IFN-λ1, -λ2, and -λ3 (also known as IL-29, IL-28A, and IL-28B, respectively) are recently described members of the IFN-λ family and have been shown to decrease the production of Th2 cytokines in vitro. However, the role and mechanism of IFN-λ1 in HT remain unknown.

A rare localization of osteoid osteoma – Presentation of two cases.

Introduction: Osteoid osteoma is a benign osteoid-forming tumor generally localized to the long bones, is rarely localized in the hand and the major symptom is intermittent pain. This study aims to present two patients who were operated on for metacarpal osteoid osteomas.

Case Outline: A 16-year-old female patient and an 18-year-old male patient were operated on for metacarpal osteoid osteomas.
