Morphometric Analysis of Sella Turcica Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess morphological shape and morphometric analysis of the sella turcica using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in different planes of section (coronal and sagittal).

Materials And Methods: CBCT images of 177 subjects of which 51 males and 126 females in the age group of 11 to 73 years were included in the study population. Linear dimensions which include the length, depth, diameter, and interclinoid distance were measured and the shape of sella turcica was analyzed.

A Simple Spectrofluorimetric Method for Iron Determination with a Chalcone-Based Schiff Base.

A chalcone-based Schiff base (5), capable of detecting iron (III) in partially aqueous media, has been designed, then synthesized by the condensation of 3-formyl-2-hydroxyquinoline and acetophenone. To determine iron (III) ion, a simple spectrofluorimetric method was developed by using the synthesized Schiff base. The developed method was validated by analyzing the certified reference material (CRM-SA-C Sandy Soil C).

The role of PSMA PET/CT imaging in restaging of prostate cancer patients with low prostate-specific antigen levels.

Introduction: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is increasingly being recognized as a novel target for the PET imaging of prostate cancer (PCa) and Ga-DKFZ-11 (Ga-PSMA) has been suggested as a novel tracer for detection of PCa relapses and metastases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of PSMA PET/CT in the diagnosis of recurrent PCa with low prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels.

Patients And Methods: We carried out a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent PSMA PET/CT from November 2013 to December 2014 in our department.

Evaluation of Sella Turcica Shape and Dimensions in Cleft Subjects Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the morphology of the sella turcica and measure its size in cleft and noncleft subjects.

Material And Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of 54 individuals (29 males; 25 females) with cleft and 85 (22 males; 63 females) without cleft were used for this study. Syndromic patients with cleft(s) were not included because of possible additional endocrinological and/or morphological disorders.

Patients with these findings may potentially require early coronary angiography and coronary bypass surgery; therefore selected patients with these findings on exercise testing might benefit from more urgent or expedited angiography.

Effects of molecular chirality on self-assembly and switching in liquid crystals at the cross-over between rod-like and bent shapes.

A bent-core compound derived from a 4-cyanoresorcinol core unit with two terephthalate based rod-like wings and carrying chiral 3,7-dimethyloctyloxy side chains has been synthesized in racemic and enantiomerically pure form and characterized by polarizing microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction and electro-optical investigations to study the influence of molecular chirality on the superstructural chirality and polar order in lamellar liquid crystalline phases. Herein we demonstrate that the coupling of molecular chirality with superstructural layer chirality in SmCsPF domain phases (forming energetically distinct diastereomeric pairs) can fix the tilt direction and thus stabilize synpolar order, leading to bistable ferroelectric switching in the SmC* phases of the (S)-enantiomer, whereas tristable modes determine the switching of the racemate. Moreover, the mechanism of electric field induced molecular reorganization changes from a rotation around the molecular long axis in the racemate to a rotation on the tilt-cone for the (S)-enantiomer.

Effectiveness of crizotinib in a patient with ALK IHC-positive/FISH-negative metastatic lung adenocarcinoma.

We report a case of crizotinib effectiveness in a heavily pretreated patient with a metastatic NSCLC initially considered IHC-positive and FISH-negative for ALK rearrangement. After repeated analyses of tumor samples, borderline ALK FISH-positivity (18.5% positive cells) was demonstrated.

A Simple Spectrofluorimetric Method Based on Quenching of a Nickel(II)-Phthalocyanine Complex to Determine Iron (III).
