Purpose: Feeding plates for cleft palate patients have been used by clinicians for many years to temporarily close the oro-nasal communication until definitive treatment with surgical techniques. The current in vitro study aimed to evaluate the adaptation of the feeding plates manufactured by two different techniques for three cleft types.

Materials And Methods: Feeding plates were manufactured with conventional compression molding (CM) and 3-dimensional (3D) additive manufacturing on main models representing bilateral cleft, unilateral right, and unilateral left cleft types (n = 10).

Prostate cancer frequently metastasizes to regional lymph nodes and bones, but metastasis to the adrenal glands remains rare, particularly in isolation. This case report presents an unusual instance of bilateral adrenal metastasis in a patient with castration-resistant prostate cancer. This case emphasizes the clinical relevance of adrenal metastasis in castration-resistant prostate cancer, highlighting the potential role of aggressive treatment strategies such as metastasectomy in isolated adrenal involvement, aiming to contribute to the limited literature on this rare metastatic pattern.

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a rare, benign, but chronic and recurrent inflammatory breast disease that significantly impacts physical and psychological well-being. It often presents symptoms such as pain, swelling, and discharge, leading to diagnostic confusion with malignancy. The etiology of GM remains unclear, though autoimmune and multifactorial components are suspected.

IKZF1 deletions (ΔIKZF1) are common in precursor B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and are assumed to have a prognostic impact. We aimed to determine the prognostic implications of ΔIKZF1 and CRLF2 overexpression in pediatric B-ALL. Furthermore, we sought to compare the multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay with standard multiplex ligand-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) methods to ascertain IKZF1 status in a clinical context.

Background: Sesame allergy (SA) is a growing concern because of its association with severe reactions and the limited knowledge of long-term outcomes.

Objective: This retrospective study aimed to identify the risk factors influencing persistent SA (PSA) in children to improve management and select suitable candidates for oral immunotherapy (OIT).

Methods: We analyzed the electronic medical records of 84 children with confirmed SA, as defined by consistent clinical reactions and immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated sensitization.

Objectives: Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is a disorder characterized by the loss or impairment of cochlear hair cells or the auditory nerve. In recent years, gene therapy has emerged as a promising approach for SNHL treatment. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of gene therapy on the restoration or improvement of auditory function in mouse model with loss or impairment of hearing.

Objective: In patients with Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), neuropsychiatric comorbidities like anxiety, depression, and somatization are common, yet the precise connection between somatization and RLS severity remains unclear. This study aims to elucidate the influence of neuropsychiatric comorbidities on RLS severity, focusing particularly on the role of somatization.

Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted at a tertiary hospital.

Tartrazine, an azo dye prevalent in pharmaceuticals and food items, was investigated for its impact on fetal development, specifically examining visceral and skeletal abnormalities in rat offspring exposed to daily oral doses throughout pregnancy. Fourteen pregnant rats were randomly assigned to control and tartrazine groups (seven animals each), with tartrazine administered via oral gavage at 7.5 mg/kg throughout gestation.

Article Synopsis
  • - Sepsis is a serious condition characterized by inflammation and cell death, often leading to multiple organ failure, requiring quick medical attention; lipopolysaccharide (LPS) triggers inflammatory responses through specific receptors like TLR-2.
  • - The study explores the role of melatonin (MEL) in reducing lung injury caused by LPS-induced septic shock in rats, highlighting its potential to lower the expressions of inflammatory markers NEK7, TLR2, and NLRP3.
  • - Results showed that melatonin treatment reduced lung tissue damage, cell infiltration, and wall thickening, indicating that it may provide therapeutic benefits in managing sepsis-related acute lung injury.

: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between tramadol use and cardio electrophysiological imbalance (iCEB/iCEBc) in general surgery patients with complaints of acute postoperative pain (APP). : In this prospective cross-sectional study, a total of 218 consecutive patients over the age of 18, who underwent surgical procedures in our clinic (postoperative), were included. For analgesic effect, tramadol was administered with an initial total max dose not exceeding 2 mg/kg.

  • * The study involved 38 TM patients and 25 healthy controls, revealing that SWE parameters were significantly higher in TM patients compared to healthy controls, indicating more advanced liver condition.
  • * Although no significant differences in SWE were found among TM patients with varying levels of iron overload, the study suggests that SWE could serve as a valuable tool for early liver damage detection, paving the way for further research.

Background: Information and education are recommended for patients with inflammatory arthritis including spondyloarthritis (SpA). However, there is no Turkish instrument available to measure the knowledge level of patients with SpA. The study aimed to translate the Spondyloarthritis Knowledge Questionnaire (SPAKE) into Turkish and investigate its validity and reliability.

Background: Since January 2015, the Cystic Fibrosis National Newborn Bloodspot Screening (CF-NBS) program has been implemented in Türkiye with two samples of immune reactive trypsinogen (IRT-1/IRT-2) testing.

Aims: To evaluate the Turkish national CF screening program, which included patients referred to a tertiary pediatric pulmonology center, to ascertain the optimal cut-off values for IRT-1/IRT-2 and to identify alternative strategies for mitigating the number of late-diagnosed false-negative patients (FNPs) who initially exhibited screen negative results but were diagnosed subsequently based on clinical suspicion. The study also compared NBS-positive patients to FNPs to determine the influence of delayed diagnosis.

: Secukinumab is a monoclonal antibody against interleukin 17 approved for patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and psoriasis. Treating axSpA and PsA patients with a history of malignancy is a challenge. While initial results on the applicability of secukinumab in this patient group are positive, the number of studies on this topic remains limited.

Objectives: To determine and compare pulp volume, dentin mineral density, presence of microcracks, pulp stones, and accessory canals, as well as their localizations in root regions for hypomineralized and healthy teeth.

Design: This study included 60 extracted permanent molar teeth, categorized into hypomineralized and healthy groups (n = 30 each). The hypomineralized group comprised molar teeth with limited white, yellow, or brown opacities, post-eruptive breakdown, or extensive restoration or crown damage.

Article Synopsis
  • PI3K is involved in immune function, and defects in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway lead to issues like recurrent infections, autoimmunity, and abnormal immune cell proliferation.
  • The study analyzed 12 patients with different PIK3 variants, revealing a long diagnostic delay and common symptoms such as respiratory infections and autoimmune issues in those with activated PI3K delta syndrome (APDS).
  • Molecular genetic analysis is essential for accurate diagnosis of these immune defects, as laboratory findings can help distinguish between APDS and other conditions related to immune dysregulation.
