Hypercalcemia is a significant complication in cancer patients, primarily caused by parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) and, rarely, by parathyroid hormone (PTH) production from tumors. We report a case of severe hypercalcemia in a woman with uterine cancer who exhibited elevated PTH and PTHrP levels. Surgical intervention revealed dedifferentiated endometrial carcinoma.

Background: In patients with schizophrenia, violent behavior is a clinically important factor that prevents their discharge. Clozapine is an effective antipsychotic medication for treatment-resistant schizophrenia, and its usefulness for aggressive behavior has also been suggested.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a 38-year-old male patient diagnosed with schizophrenia who was successfully treated with clozapine after recurrent violent behavior.

Background: Evaluation of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpression caused by erb-b2 receptor tyrosine kinase 2 (ERBB2) amplification (AMP) by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is essential for treating unresectable metastatic gastric cancer (GC). A targeted tumour sequencing test enables comprehensive assessment of alterations in cancer-related genes, including ERBB2. This study aimed to evaluate the concordance between the targeted tumour sequencing test and IHC/FISH for detecting HER2-positive GC and to clarify the significance of ERBB2 AMP and concomitant genetic alterations in HER2 downstream pathways (DPs) in anti-HER2 therapy for unresectable metastatic GC patients.

Successful Multimodal Treatment of Intracranial Growing Teratoma Syndrome with Malignant Features.

Molecular analysis of the growing teratoma syndrome has not been extensively studied. Here, we report a 14-year-old boy with a growing mass during treatment for a mixed germ cell tumor of the pineal region. Tumor markers were negative; thus, growing teratoma syndrome was suspected.

Rationale And Objectives: To determine the additional value of peritumoral radiomics in predicting overall survival (OS) in surgically resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its correlation with pathological findings.

Methods: A total of 526 patients with surgically resected NSCLC were included (191 training, 160 internal validation, and 175 external validation cohorts). CT images were used to segment the gross tumor volume (GTV) and peritumoral volume (PTV) within distances of 3, 6, 9 mm from the tumor boundary (PTV3, PTV6, and PTV9), and radiomic features were extracted.

This study investigated the respiratory activity in adult Wistar rats across different behavioral seizure severity induced by pentylenetetrazole (PTZ). Animals underwent surgery for electrodes implantation, allowing simultaneous EEG and diaphragm EMG (DIA) recordings and the respiratory frequency and DIA amplitude were measured. Seizures were acutely induced through PTZ injection and classified based on a pre-established score, with absence-like seizures (spike wave discharge (SWD) events on EEG) representing the lowest score.

Occupational Lung Disease Caused by Exposure to Polytetrafluoroethylene.

We herein report a 45-year-old-man with multiple foreign body granulomas in the lungs caused by polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). A mass in the right lower lobe of the lung and bilateral centrilobular lung nodules were found unexpectedly during the patient's visit to a hospital for a respiratory infection. The patient's occupation for 26 years involved spraying PTFE.

We herein report a case of late distant recurrence of breast cancer and synchronous metastasis to the hypopharynx, stomach, ileum, bones, and lymph nodes almost 24 years after surgery.

Introduction: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and core needle biopsy (CNB) can provide tissue samples for the diagnoses of bone and soft tissue tumors. We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of FNAC and CNB, the usefulness of the image-guided needle procedures, and assessed whether a discordance can influence the prognosis.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively examined the accuracy rates of FNAC and CNB procedures by analyzing results of 405 specimens of 389 patients.

Gastric cancer is a Lynch syndrome (LS)-associated tumor, with the cumulative lifetime risk in LS patients estimated to be 5.8-13%. Hence, surveillance for gastric cancer is important for LS patients, especially in those with a family history of gastric cancer or of Asian descent.

Diagnosis in adulthood is quite rare, and preoperative diagnosis of gastrointestinal duplication is difficult, particularly in the small intestine. We encountered an extremely rare adult case of duplication of the jejunum, which showed a stomach-like form diagnosed using double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE).

[A Case of HER2-Positive Recurrent Breast Cancer and Liver Metastases of GIST Treated with Combined Anti-HER2 Therapy and Imatinib].

A 70-year-old female with liver metastases from gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST)that were found 3 months after partial gastrectomy for the primary GIST underwent Auchincloss operation for left breast cancer with ipsilateral axillary lymph node metastases. The diagnosis was microinvasive ductal cancer that was pT1miN1M0, pStage ⅡA, hormone receptor negative, and HER2 positive. Given the impact of this cancer on the prognosis of liver metastases of GIST, imatinib therapy, but not adjuvant chemotherapy, was started promptly for breast cancer after surgery.

Cutaneous syncytial myoepithelioma (CSM) is a recently recognized variant of myoepithelioma characterized by an intradermal syncytial proliferation of spindled, ovoid, and histiocytoid cells. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells usually show strong expression of S-100 protein and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA). Here we report a case of CSM in the thigh of a 51-year-old Japanese woman.

Background: Colorectal mucinous adenocarcinoma is a rare subtype of colorectal cancer and is characterized by an abundance of mucin in the tumor. In addition, the colorectal mucinous adenocarcinoma often demonstrates poor differentiation in the histology of tumor cells and poor prognosis compared with those with adenocarcinoma. Here, we present the case of a young woman with colonic mucinous adenocarcinoma showing significantly rapid progression within four months of immunosuppressant therapy for Henoch-Schönlein purpura.
