Polyphenols are natural biomolecules known for circumventing several diseases including cancer with little adverse effects. This study aimed to investigate the polyphenol enriched fractions from the leaf extract of Asystasia gangetica for their composition, biological activities such as antioxidant activity, haemolytic effects, and in vitro cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines. LC-MS/MS analysis of the enriched fractions identified a total of 35 distinct polyphenols with caffeic acid, luteolin, apigenin, and protocatechuic acid at higher concentrations.

Case Description: A 25-year-old male with human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis C virus, and disseminated TB on antitubercular therapy for the past 8 months, presented with paraplegia of 2 months duration. When the MRI spine revealed multiple peripheral rim enhancing intradural extramedullary lesions from T6 to T8 and dorsally from T10 to T11, the patient was diagnosed with IETSC.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe annotated whole-genome sequence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis revealed the presence of a putative recD gene; however, the biochemical characteristics of its encoded protein product (MtRecD) remain largely unknown. Here, we show that MtRecD exists in solution as a stable homodimer. Protein-DNA binding assays revealed that MtRecD binds efficiently to single-stranded DNA and linear duplexes containing 5' overhangs relative to the 3' overhangs but not to blunt-ended duplex.

In this paper, we report the effective atomic number, Z(eff), of composite materials for Compton effect in the gamma ray region 280-1115 keV based on the theoretically obtained Klein-Nishina scattering cross sections in the angular range 50-100° as well as experimentally measured differential incoherent (Compton) scattering cross sections of some composite materials at three scattering angles of 60°, 80°, and 100°. The Z(eff) values so obtained were found to be both angle and energy independent in the region of interest so that it could be concluded that it is possible to represent such composite materials by a mean atomic number in this region as suggested in earlier reports recently.
