Background/aim: The development of new biomarkers to predict cancer patient prognosis is expected to aid in treatment selection, contributing to improved outcomes. In this study, we extracted a candidate gene associated with patient prognosis from a public database and investigated the molecular and biological functions and clinical significance of the gene in gastric cancer.
Materials And Methods: We analyzed The Cancer Genome Atlas database and identified the family with sequence similarity 32 member a (FAM32A) as a candidate gene.
Background: Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) is a non-invasive tool for evaluating transmural inflammation in Crohn's disease (CD). However, its utility is constrained by operator dependency and limited accessibility.
Aims: To explore the feasibility of serum biomarkers-specifically leucine-rich alpha-2 glycoprotein (LRG)-as an alternative to IUS for assessing transmural inflammation.
Carinoplasty can be divided into the one-stoma method, the montage method, the double-barrel method, and the Miyamoto method. The one-stoma method is usually performed with right upper sleeve lobectomy, and with an anastomosis of the intermediate trunk to a carina. On the other hand, in the montage method, the double-barrel method or the Miyamoto method, carina is completely resected and the trachea, left main bronchus and right bronchus are divided into three pieces.

This study verified that the transition of thought states varies with fluctuations in autonomic nervous activity, and that this effect is modulated by interoceptive accuracy. The participants completed the heartbeat counting task (HCT) and vigilance task.

Global expression profiling was conducted on primary ESCC tissues with distant metastases. We investigated the identification of secretogranin V (SCG5) as a promising biomarker for the detection and assessment of ESCC.

Methods: Children with hepatoblastoma who underwent liver resection at our hospital between September 1992 and January 2023 were included in this study. Clinical data were retrospectively reviewed, and patients were categorized into complication and non-complication groups based on the need for radiological or surgical interventions or massive intraoperative blood loss (> 80 mL/kg).
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an increasingly diagnosed cancer that kills 90% of afflicted patients, with most patients receiving palliative chemotherapy. We identified neuronal pentraxin 1 (NPTX1) as a cancer-secreted protein that becomes overexpressed in human and murine PDAC cells during metastatic progression and identified adhesion molecule with Ig-like domain 2 (AMIGO2) as its receptor. Molecular, genetic, biochemical, and pharmacologic experiments revealed that secreted NPTX1 acts cell-autonomously on the AMIGO2 receptor to drive PDAC metastatic colonization of the liver-the primary site of PDAC metastasis.

This earthquake triggered a tsunami that propagated along the coastline of Ishikawa, Toyama, and Niigata Prefectures facing the Sea of Japan and significantly damaged coastal communities and infrastructure.

Sequential chemotherapy may have to be discontinued due to docetaxelassociated side effects. This study investigated the relationship between treatment outcome of docetaxel and cabazitaxel and their associated side effects.

The surgical treatment strategy for EVF in CD is definitive resection of the intestinal tract side, and performing a leak test using dye injection into the bladder after EVF dissection to determine the appropriate surgical procedure for the bladder side. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of surgical treatment for EVF in CD.

Most of these cancers are associated with smoking or drinking habits. This study focused on the clinical and genomic characteristics of patients with these cancers using the Center for Cancer Genomics and Advanced Therapeutics (C-CAT) database, which comprises a large volume of data on Japanese patients who have undergone tumor profiling gene panel tests.

We previously reported that neural pentraxin receptor (NPTXR), a transmembrane protein mainly expressed in the brain and involved in synaptic transmission, is implicated in gastric cancer malignancy. This study evaluated the expression and function of NPTXR in ESCC, the therapeutic potential of monoclonal antibody (mAb) against NPTXR, and its prognostic value in ESCC patients.

Nevertheless, significant BWL following PG may occur, affecting the patient's well-being and survival. In this study, we aimed to identify the relevant factors for BWL following PG by analyzing an institutional database of patients.

Design: We interviewed people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild dementia and their caregivers during June 2020-March 2021 to validate patient- and caregiver-rated SF-DEM-J and compared their scores at baseline (April 2020 to May 2020) and at 6-8 months (January 2021 to March 2021) during a time of tighter COVID-19 restrictions.
Setting: The neuropsychology clinic in the Department of Psychiatry at Osaka University Hospital and outpatient clinic in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology at Daini Osaka Police Hospital, Japan.
Background: Advanced gastric cancer (GC) has a poor prognosis. This study aimed to identify novel GC-related genes as potential therapeutic targets.
Methods: Killer cell lectin-like receptor G2 (KLRG2) was identified as a candidate gene by transcriptome analysis of metastatic GC tissues.

Thiopurine is metabolized to 6-thio-(deoxy) guanosine triphosphate (6-thio-(d) GTP), which is then incorporated into DNA or RNA and causes cytotoxicity. Nudix hydrolase 15 (NUDT15) reduces the cytotoxic effects of thiopurine by converting 6-thio-(d) GTP to 6-thio-(d) guanosine monophosphate (6-thio-(d) GMP). NUDT15 polymorphisms like the Arg139Cys variant are strongly linked to thiopurine-induced severe leukocytopenia and alopecia.

Although neoadjuvant treatment (NAT) for resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the standard of care, the correlation between coagulation status and prognosis of patients undergoing preoperative treatment is insufficiently understood.
Methods: Patients (n = 200) who underwent radical subtotal esophagectomy after preoperative treatment for ESCC between January 2012 and December 2021were included in the analysis.
Catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) caused by Lactobacillus spp. and Lacticaseibacillus spp. are rare, and their clinical course and optimal treatment remain uncertain.

Here, we searched for genes involved in the malignant phenotype of GC and investigated the potential of one candidate gene to serve as a novel therapeutic target. Analysis of transcriptome datasets of GC identified natriuretic peptide receptor 1 (NPR1), a plasma membrane protein, as a potential target.
