A 59-year-old man presented with abdominal mass and weight loss. Computed tomography revealed a 20 cm mass in the vicinity of the left kidney. A tumor biopsy was performed and diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma.

A rare intrahepatic splenosis mimicking hepatocellular carcinoma: A case report.

Intrahepatic splenosis (IHS) is a rare disease that is considered to result from heterotopic autotransplantation or implantation of splenic tissue after splenic trauma or surgery. A 46-year-old man with a treatment history of a left lateral liver segmentectomy and splenectomy for a road traffic injury 30 years earlier presented to Sakai City Medical Center (Sakai, Japan) with acute abdominal pain in November 2019. Physical examination showed no significant signs, and serum data were normal.

New liposome-radionuclide-chelate combination for tumor targeting and rapid healthy tissue clearance.

Radionuclide imaging and therapy are promising methods for controlling systemic cancers; however, their clinical application has been limited by excessive radionuclide accumulation in healthy tissues. To minimize radionuclide accumulation in non-cancerous tissues while ensuring sufficient build up in tumors, we aimed to develop a method that controlled the in vivo dynamics of radionuclides post-administration. To this end, we describe a novel strategy that combines liposomes, a potent carrier system for drug delivery, with unique radionuclide-ligand complexes based on In-ethylenedicysteine.

Effect of the First-Line Therapy with Osimertinib for a Metastatic Choroidal Tumor in Advanced-Stage Lung Cancer: A Case Report.

Although the advent of molecular-targeted drugs has improved the prognosis of various cancers, the long-term prognosis and side effects as the first-line therapy for metastatic choroidal tumors remain unclear. We describe a case in which the first-line therapy of osimertinib has shown long-term successful and minimum side effect responses for metastatic choroidal tumors in a patient with advanced-stage lung cancer. The patient was a 62-year-old man who complained of foggy vision and visual field defects in his left eye for 1 month.

[Case of Robot-Assisted Low Anterior Resection with Total Cystectomy for Rectal Cancer Invading the Urinary Bladder/Prostate in Collaboration with Urologists].

We present a case of a 72-year-old man diagnosed with rectal cancer invading the urinary bladder/prostate. Preoperative chemoradiotherapy substantially reduced the tumor size. In collaboration with urologists, robot-assisted low anterior resection with total cystectomy was performed using the da Vinci Xi system.

The lack of knowledge on acute stroke in Brazil: A cross-sectional study with children, adolescents, and adults from public schools.

Objective: Stroke is an important cause of disability and death in adults worldwide. However, it is preventable in most cases and treatable as long as patients recognize it and reach capable medical facilities in time. This community-based study investigated students' stroke knowledge, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) activation, associated risk factors, warning signs and symptoms, and prior experience from different educational levels in the KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL project.

Simultaneous visualization of multiple radionuclides in vivo.

The insufficient energy and spatial resolutions of radionuclide imaging with conventional scintillation detectors restrict the visualization of multiple radionuclides and of microstructures in tissue. Here we report the development and performance of an imaging system equipped with a cadmium telluride diode detector that achieves an energy resolution of 1.7% at 140 keV and a spatial resolution of 250 μm.

Prolonged heart rate recovery time after 6-minute walk test is an independent risk factor for cardiac events in heart failure: A prospective cohort study.

Objectives: To determine whether the time for peak exercise heart rate to return to resting heart rate after the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) can predict cardiac events in patients with heart failure (HF) within 2 years.

Design: Prospective cohort study.

Setting: HF outpatient facility at a tertiary teaching hospital.

Home-based training program in patients with chronic heart failure and reduced ejection fraction: a randomized pilot study.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the effects of home-and center-based exercise training programs on functional capacity, inspiratory muscle strength, daily physical activity level, and quality of life (QoL) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) over a 12-week period.

Methods: This study included 23 patients with CHF (left ventricular ejection fraction 31±6%) randomized to a home-based (n=11) or center-based (n=12) program. Patients underwent 12 weeks of aerobic training (60%-70% heart rate reserve): walking for the home-based and supervised cycling for the center-based group, both combined with resistance training (50% of 1 maximum repetition).

Novel method for screening functional antibody with comprehensive analysis of its immunoliposome.

Development of monoclonal antibody is critical for targeted drug delivery because its characteristics determine improved therapeutic efficacy and reduced side-effect. Antibody therapeutics target surface molecules; hence, internalization is desired for drug delivery. As an antibody-drug conjugate, a critical parameter is drug-to-antibody ratio wherein the quantity of drugs attached to the antibody influences the antibody structure, stability, and efficacy.

Smoking load reduction is insufficient to downregulate miR-301b, a lung cancer promoter.

Several circulating miRNAs identified in the plasma of smokers have been implicated as promoters of nasopharyngeal and lung carcinoma. To investigate the plasma profile of miRNAs in subjects who reduces the number of smoked cigarettes and who quit after six months. We accompanied 28 individuals enrolled in a Smoking Cessation Program over 6 months.

Pre-frailty status increases the risk of rehospitalization in patients after elective cardiac surgery without complication.

Background And Aim: It has been demonstrated that patients with pre-frailty have more adverse outcomes after cardiac surgery; however, data on prognosis and long-term evolution in patients with pre-frailty after elective cardiac surgery without postoperative complications are still scarce. To evaluate the impact of pre-frailty status on functional survival in patients after elective cardiac surgery without surgical complications.

Methods: This was a retrospective study with 141 patients over 65 years old, with an established diagnosis of myocardial infarction or valve disease.

Background/aim: Tumor angiogenesis induced by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and/or fibroblast growth factor (FGF) plays an important role in tumor growth, metastasis, and drug resistance. However, the characteristics of tumor vessels derived from these angiogenic factors have not been fully explored.

Materials And Methods: To functionally examine tumor vessels, we developed in vivo VEGF- and FGF-induced tumor blood vessel models.

Background: Frailty is identified as a major predictor of adverse outcomes in older surgical patients. However, the outcomes in pre-frail patients after cardiovascular surgery remain unknown.

Objective: To investigate the main outcomes (length of stay, mechanical ventilation time, stroke and in-hospital death) in pre-frail patients in comparison with no-frail patients after cardiovascular surgery.

Reproducibility for Heart Rate Variability Analysis during 6-Min Walk Test in Patients with Heart Failure and Agreement between Devices.

Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis is a useful method to assess abnormal functioning in the autonomic nervous system and to predict cardiac events in patients with heart failure (HF). HRV measurements with heart rate monitors have been validated with an electrocardiograph in healthy subjects but not in patients with HF. We explored the reproducibility of HRV in two consecutive six-minute walk tests (6MW), 60-minute apart, using a heart rate monitor (PolarS810i) and a portable electrocardiograph (called Holter) in 50 HF patients (mean age 59 years, NYHA II, left ventricular ejection fraction ~35%).

Alternatives to Aerobic Exercise Prescription in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure.

Background: Exercise is essential for patients with heart failure as it leads to a reduction in morbidity and mortality as well as improved functional capacity and oxygen uptake (v̇O2). However, the need for an experienced physiologist and the cost of the exam may render the cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) unfeasible. Thus, the six-minute walk test (6MWT) and step test (ST) may be alternatives for exercise prescription.

Radiolabeled liposome imaging determines an indication for liposomal anticancer agent in ovarian cancer mouse xenograft models.

Liposomal anticancer agents can effectively deliver drugs to tumor lesions, but their therapeutic effects are enhanced in only limited number of patients. Appropriate biomarkers to identify responder patients to these liposomal agents will improve their treatment efficacies. We carried out pharmacological and histopathological analyses of mouse xenograft models bearing human ovarian cancers (Caov-3, SK-OV-3, KURAMOCHI, and TOV-112D) to correlate the therapeutic effects of doxorubicin-encapsulated liposome (Doxil(®) ) and histological characteristics linked to the enhanced permeability and retention effect.

Novel Indocyanine Green-Phytate Colloid Technique for Sentinel Node Detection in Head and Neck: Mouse Study.

Objective: Sentinel node navigation surgery using real-time, near-infrared imaging with indocyanine green is becoming popular by allowing head and neck surgeons to avoid unnecessary neck dissection. The major drawback of this method is its quick migration through the lymphatics, limiting the diagnostic time window and undesirable detection of downstream nodes. We resolved this problem by mixing indocyanine green (ICG) with phytate colloid to retard its migration and demonstrated its feasibility in a nude mouse study.
