Each organism has a unique sequence of nitrogenous bases in in the form of DNA or RNA which distinguish them from other organisms. This characteristic makes nucleic acid-based detection extremely selective and compare to other molecular techniques. In recent years, several nucleic acid-based detection technology methods have been developed, one of which is the electrochemical biosensor.

Introduction: Declaration of human monkeypox(HMPX) virus as Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by World Health Organisation (WHO) has raised concerns among the public andlack of knowledge is a prominent challenge in curbing this outbreak. Therefore, assessment ofknowledge level on this outbreak among the medical students is also necessary due to the fact that they are the future healthcare practitioners who will be directly involved in the disease management as well as a major source of knowledge dissemination to the public.

Aim: The main objective of this study is to assess the knowledge level of medical students at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) regarding the emergence of HMPX.

The lens of the eye are very sensitive to radiation and mostly exposed to scattered radiation during the Computed Tomography (CT) procedure. The study measures the absorbed doses to the lens of the eye and proposed a diagnostic reference level for head examination by comparing the current research result with the international standard. The incurred doses of 62 patients who undergone head and neck CT procedure were measure using thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD-100), the protocols adopted in the study were brain (sequential and spiral), sinus (sequential and spiral), and neck-brain (spiral).

Tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis have been a major challenge for medical and healthcare sectors in many underdeveloped countries with limited diagnosis tools. Tuberculosis can be detected from microscopic slides and chest X-ray but as a result of the high cases of tuberculosis, this method can be tedious for both microbiologist and Radiologist and can lead to miss-diagnosis. The main objective of this study is to addressed these challenges by employing Computer Aided Detection (CAD) using Artificial Intelligence-driven models which learn features based on convolution and result in an output with high accuracy.

Reverse-Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) method is currently the gold standard method for detection of viral strains in human samples, but this technique is very expensive, take time and often leads to misdiagnosis. The recent outbreak of COVID-19 has led scientists to explore other options such as the use of artificial intelligence driven tools as an alternative or a confirmatory approach for detection of viral pneumonia. In this paper, we utilized a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) approach to detect viral pneumonia in x-ray images using a pretrained AlexNet model thereby adopting a transfer learning approach.

Accuracy in the prediction of the particulate matter (PM and PM) concentration in the atmosphere is essential for both its monitoring and control. In this study, a novel neuro fuzzy ensemble (NF-E) model was proposed for prediction of hourly PM and PM concentration. The NF-E involves careful selection of relevant input parameters for base modelling and using an adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) model as a nonlinear kernel for obtaining ensemble output.

Article Synopsis
  • - Most rural hospitals in Nigeria built before 2005 lack adequate performance assessments for shielding barriers, risking overexposure to ionizing radiation for patients and staff.
  • - A study conducted in a Jos hospital found that current shielding barriers are insufficient, as unshielded radiation doses were alarmingly high and exceeded safe limits.
  • - There is a critical need for hospitals to assess and reinforce their radiation shielding materials regularly, especially with rising patient loads due to population growth, to ensure safety standards are met.

Vehicular traffic noise is the main source of noise pollution in major cities around the globe. A reliable and accurate method for the estimation of vehicular traffic noise is therefore essential for creating a healthy noise-free environment. In this study, 2 linear (simple average and weighted average) and 2-nonlinear (neural network and neuro-fuzzy) ensemble models were developed by combining the outputs of three Artificial Intelligence (AI) based non-linear models; Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), Feed Forward Neural Network (FFNN), Support Vector Regression (SVR) and one Multilinear regression (MLR) model to enhance the performance of the single black box models in predicting vehicular traffic noise of Nicosia city, North Cyprus.
