SH-SY5Y, a neuroblastoma cell line, can be converted into mature neuronal phenotypes, characterized by the expression of mature neuronal and neurotransmitter markers. However, the mature phenotypes described across multiple studies appear inconsistent. As this cell line expresses common neuronal markers after a simple induction, there is a high chance of misinterpreting its maturity.

Objective: Milk fatty acid (FA) is a main nutritional component that markedly effects human health. Intentional modification of the FA profile has the potential to improve milk quality. This study aimed at the factors affecting elevated FA levels and the estimation of the genetic parameters for milk FAs in the Korean Holstein population.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to estimate genetic parameters for milk ketone bodies (BHBA and Ac), fat-protein ratio (FPR), and energy balance (EB) in dairy cows, while also examining how FPR and EB during early lactation affect ketone levels in milk.
  • Using over 260,000 test-day records from 2012 to 2016, researchers measured milk ketones through FTIR and calculated FPR and EB based on lactation data.
  • Results showed increased ketone levels during early lactation with negative energy balance, with heritability estimates for these traits suggesting that selective breeding could help manage ketone levels effectively during early lactation.
