Unlabelled: Though the volatile profiles of black pepper have been reported already, the information on terpene synthase family genes is not known. In this study, using a combinatorial approach, the berry hybrid transcriptome assembly of llumina and nanopore sequencing, the entire terpene synthase family responsible for the biosynthesis of the flavor-imparting volatiles in black pepper berries was profiled. The profile shows 98 terpene synthases from various terpene synthesis pathways.

analysis of six phytochemicals, flabelliferin, marmelosin, piperine, ocimin, curcumin and leucoanthocyanin, along with three drug compounds, nelfinavir, remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine, as positive control against drug targets of one SARS-CoV-2 viral protease, COVID-19 main protease (SARS CoV-2 3CL/M), two coronavirus proteases, SARS-CoV main peptidase (SARS CoV M), SARS-CoV main proteinase (SARS CoV 3CL), and one human cellular transmembrane serine proteinase (TMPRSS2), was carried out. Except leucoanthocyanin all other phytochemicals proved better than all three positive control drugs against SARS-CoV main peptidase, whereas, flabelliferin was found to be the potential inhibitor for SARS-CoV main proteinase out performing all the positive control drugs and phytochemicals. Amongst the compounds studied, the best inhibitor for COVID-19 main protease was nelfinavir followed by flabelliferin and ocimin.

Ionome signatures discriminates the geographical origin of jackfruits (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.).

Jackfruits are nutritionally rich fruit crop indigenous to the humid tropics, known by their place of origin. In the present study, using multielemental profiling of fruit samples, we demonstrated the discrimination of different jack fruit germplasm based on their geographical origin in India. The concentration of 24 elements in soil and fruit were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).

The nature of binding mechanism of toluidine blue O (TBO) with chicken egg white lysozyme was studied comprehensively by various spectroscopic and computational methods. Both steady state and time-resolved fluorescence studies unambiguously point to the prevalence of static quenching mechanism in lysozyme-TBO system. Thermodynamic parameters revealed that the association of TBO with lysozyme was a spontaneous process in which hydrophobic and hydrogen bond interactions played a pivotal role in the binding process.

Density functional theory investigation of cocaine water complexes.

Twenty cocaine-water complexes were studied using density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP/6-311++G** level to understand their geometries, energies, vibrational frequencies, charge transfer and topological parameters. Among the 20 complexes, 12 are neutral and eight are protonated in the cocaine-water complexes. Based on the interaction energy, the protonated complexes are more stable than the neutral complexes.

Colon cancer risk may be influenced by phase I and II xenobiotic-metabolizing enzyme systems. The chemopreventive agent gallic acid (GA), a plant polyphenol, is found in various natural products. Our aim was to evaluate the potential role of GA on drug-metabolizing enzymes in 1,2-dimethyl hydrazine (DMH) induced rat colon carcinogenesis.

Inhibition of in vitro lipid peroxidation (lpo) evoked by calocybe indica (milky mushroom).

The present study was designed with an objective to assess the inhibition of lipid peroxidation (LPO) by the aqueous extract of Calocybe indica (milky mushroom) using an invitro model of goat liver homogenate and RBC ghosts. The invitro LPO was inhibited to a good extent by the aqueous extract of milky mushroom and the extent of inhibition being higher in the RBC membrane model when compared with liver homogenate model.

A number of mycobacterial antigens have been used for antibody detection assays and several are available as kits in the market.

Antitumor and antifertility activities of plumbagin controlled release formulations.

With a view to increase efficiency and reduce toxicity of Plumbagin, an attempt was made to formulate plumbagin as a controlled release preparation using various carriers and test for their antitumor and antifertility activities. Niosomes and albumin microspheres were used as carriers. In vitro data showed promising results for these formulations thus they were taken up for in vivo assessment.

Niosome encapsulated of vincristine sulfate: improved anticancer activity with reduced toxicity in mice.

Nonionic surfactant vesicles (niosomes) are promising drug carriers for anticancer drugs. Niosome encapsulated vincristine sulfate prepared by transmembrane pH gradient drug uptake process (remote loading method) was evaluated for toxicity and antitumour activity after administration to tumour bearing mice. The toxicity of vincristine sulfate was reduced after niosome encapsulation and anticancer activity improved, which may be due to better delivery of vincristine at the tumour site.

Twenty-two cases of bilateral internal iliac artery ligation done in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, India over a period of 10 years (1981-1990) were studied. Various indications and complications were analysed. Internal iliac artery ligation is a life-saving procedure in pelvic hemorrhage.

Effect of macrophage activation on plasma disposition of niosomal 3H-methotrexate in sarcoma-180 bearing mice.

Methotrexate niosomes were formed by reverse phase evaporation technique using sorbitan monostearate (Span 60) surfactant. The pharmacokinetic parameters of methotrexate (MTX) after macrophage activation via muramyl dipeptide gelatin conjugate were studied and the results compared with those obtained after free MTX and MTX niosomes without macrophage activation. In mice MTX concentrations and tumour regression were higher after macrophage activation.
