Background: Regular physical activity is associated with reduced mortality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Interventions to reduce time spent in sedentary behavior could improve outcomes. The primary purpose was to investigate the impact of telemonitoring with supportive phone calls on daily exercise times with newly established home exercise bicycle training.

Purpose: Increasingly frequent, it is clinically indicated to obtain tissue from a peripheral lung lesion (PLL) to yield a pathological diagnosis. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the diagnostic sensitivity of transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) and transbronchial catheter aspiration (TBCA) in addition to transbronchial forceps biopsy (TBB) at conventional bronchoscopy.

Methods: Eligible patients showing a PLL on computed tomography scans were included in the study.

In muscular dystrophies quantitative muscle MRI (qMRI) detects disease progression more sensitively than clinical scores. This prospective one year observational study compared qMRI with clinical scores in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) to investigate if qMRI can serve as a surrogate outcome measure in clinical trials. In 20 DMD patients the motor function measure (MFM) total and subscores (D1-D3) were done for physical examination, and the fat fraction (MFF) of thigh muscle qMRI was obtained using the two-point Dixon method.

Objectives: To retrospectively assess the outcome of patients with initial PSA of 20 ng/ml or higher undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP) for prostate cancer (pCA).

Methods: Between January 1986 and June 2005, 275 patients with preoperative PSA> or =20 ng/ml underwent RP for pCA at our institution. Overall, disease-specific and biochemical progression-free survival rates for the entire cohort and for particular subgroups were determined.

1. Phencyclidine (PCP), a non-competitive NMDA-receptor antagonist, is able to induce schizophrenia-like symptoms in animals and in humans. It is known that schizophrenic patients have deficits in memory processes.

To simulate psychosis in rats we have developed a method for the continuous delivery of phencyclidine (PCP) using implantable controlled-release polymers. PCP polymer implants produced deficits in latent inhibition which do not occur after repeated bolus injections. PCP implanted rats were also devoid of any anxiogenic signs, motoric hyperactivity and learning acquisition which can be seen in rats receiving daily bolus injections of a comparable PCP dose.

The Leu-enkephalin dalargin and the Met-enkephalin kyotorphin normally do not cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) when given systemically. To transport these neuropeptides across the BBB they were adsorbed onto the surface of poly(butylcyanoacrylate) nanoparticles (NPs) and the NPs were coated with polysorbate 80. Central analgesia was measured by the hot plate test in mice.

The Leu-enkephalin dalargin normally does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB) when given intravenously. To transport dalargin across the blood-brain barrier, the peptide was adsorbed onto the surface of poly(butyl)cyanoacrylate nanoparticles and coated with polysorbate 80. After systemic administration the central analgesia was measured by hot plate test.
