Individuals with obesity who undergo surgical or pharmacological therapies achieve good results in terms of weight and cardiometabolic risk reduction. It is not uncommon for those affected to equate the extent of weight loss achieved, with long-term treatment success. What is overlooked is that, in addition to obesity, significant weight loss also carries a risk of sarcopenia.

In the area of Bielefeld there occurred a striking accumulation of four cases of death as a consequence of a paralytic ileus within a period of two years. All four patients suffered from a psychotic disorder and had taken psychotropic medication for many years. After exclusion of other causes, the anticholinergic effect of the psychotropic medication must be taken as the cause of death.

Salivary duct carcinomas (SDCs) are high-grade malignant tumors exhibiting aggressive growth with early regional and distant metastasis. We report a case of SDC in a 63-year-old male with early recurrent disease in the cerebellopontine angle (CPA) after total parotidectomy and adjuvant radiotherapy. The tendency of the tumor to recur or metastasize despite radical surgical measures and radiotherapy continues to pose a therapeutic challenge.
