Background: High intake of protein and low intake of plant-based foods during complementary feeding can contribute to negative long-term health effects.
Objectives: To investigate the effects of a protein-reduced, Nordic complementary diet on body composition, growth, biomarkers, and dietary intake, compared with current Swedish dietary recommendations for infants at 12 and 18 mo.
Methods: Healthy, term infants (n = 250) were randomly allocated to either a Nordic group (NG) or a conventional group (CG).
Pathophysiological consequences of focal non-convulsive status epilepticus (fNCSE) have been difficult to demonstrate in humans. In rats fNCSE pathology has been identified in the eyes. Here we evaluated the use of high-resolution 7 T structural T-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 9.

The primary objectives of this randomized controlled pilot trial were to test the palatability of the meals and the acceptability of the intervention in preparation for an 8-week RCT in the future, which will investigate whether a healthy Nordic diet improves depressive symptoms in individuals with major depressive disorder, and associated biological mechanisms. Depressed ( = 10) and non-depressed ( = 6) women and men were randomized to receive either a healthy Nordic diet (ND) or a control diet (CD) for 8 days.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of a Nordic, protein-reduced complementary diet (ND) compared to a diet following the current Swedish dietary guidelines on eating patterns and food acceptance. At 4-6 months (mo) of age infants were randomized to a Nordic group (NG, = 41) or a Conventional group (CG, = 40), and followed until 18 mo of age.

This study investigated the effects of a systematic introduction of taste portions and a novel protein-reduced complementary diet based on Nordic foods on fruit and vegetable intake, growth and iron status to 9 months of age.

Image-assisted dietary assessment may improve the accuracy, but to date, evaluation in the pediatric setting is limited. The aim of the study was to compare macronutrient and energy intake by using an active image-assisted five-day FR against a regular five-day FR, and to validate image-assistance with total energy expenditure (TEE), was measured using doubly labeled water.

In neuroscience research cell-based assays are important experimental instruments for studying neuronal function in health and disease. Traditional cell culture at 2D-surfaces induces abnormal cell-cell contacts and network formation.

We explore the effect of electrospun poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) fiber scaffold topography and functionalization and culture medium, on the behavior of mouse retinal cells. Dissociated mouse retinal post-natal cells were seeded on random or aligned oriented fibers, with or without laminin coating and cultured with either basic or neurotrophins enriched medium for 7days.

With growing use of nanoparticles (NPs) in commercial and medical applications, including ophthalmology, there is a need for reliable models for early prediction of NP toxicity in the eye and retina. Metal NPs, such as gold and silver, gain much of attention in the ophthalmology community due to their potential to cross the barriers of the eye.

The pig is becoming an increasingly used non-primate model in experimental studies of human retinal diseases and disorders. The anatomy, size, and vasculature of the porcine eye and retina closely resemble their human counterparts, which allows for application of standard instrumentation and diagnostics used in the clinic. Despite many reports that demonstrate immunohistochemistry as a useful method for exploring neuropathological changes in the mammalian central nervous system, including the pig, the porcine retina has been sparsely described.

The mean IOP during the ischemic insult was 79.
