Aim Of Study: When the biceps tendon is tapped, a contraction is elicited in the biceps muscle. This also occurs with tapping of the radial bone, and it has been suggested that vibration is a stimulus for deep tendon reflexes. We investigated whether the normal stimulus for the deep tendon reflex is a sudden stretch, a phasic vibration, or both.

GLP-1 and its metabolite GLP-1(9-36)a have been shown to exert cardiotropic effects, and were demonstrated to be cardioprotective agents in isolated, postischemic rat or mouse hearts. An agent's total effect on myocardial performance in a postconditioning paradigm is a sum of its myocyte-preserving (cardioprotective) and contractility-affecting (negative or positive inotropic) action components. These components may not always be explicitly separated by the experimental protocol.

The aim of the present study was to examine the mechanisms responsible for the antinatriuretic effect of the selective, peripherally acting, nociceptin/orphanin FQ peptide (NOP) receptor partial agonist Ac-RYYRWKKKKKKK-NH(2) (ZP120). Using immunohistochemistry, we showed that in the cortex NOP receptors are expressed in the distal convoluted tubules, the connecting tubules, and the collecting ducts. Using clearance techniques, we evaluated renal excretory function during acute administration of ZP120 (1 nmol/kg/min) in chronically catheterized, conscious rats (n = 8/group).
