- Elevated levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs-2, 3, and 9) were observed in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) compared to those with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) at the time of MI.
- MMP-3 and MMP-9 levels significantly decreased and showed no difference between acute MI and stable CAD during the quiescent phase, which is over three months after the acute event.
- There was no significant difference in MMP levels between atherothrombotic and non-atherothrombotic MI, though MMP-9 was notably higher during acute MI, particularly in the atherothrombotic subset, compared to their follow-up
