Lewy body dementia (LBD), a class of disorders comprising Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), features substantial clinical and pathological overlap with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The identification of biomarkers unique to LBD pathophysiology could meaningfully advance its diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment. Using quantitative mass spectrometry (MS), we measured over 9,000 proteins across 138 dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) tissues from a University of Pennsylvania autopsy collection comprising control, Parkinson's disease (PD), PDD, and DLB diagnoses.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFImmune checkpoint inhibitors have become essential antineoplastic agents in medical oncology over the past decade. However, they are associated with potentially fatal multisystem abnormalities, with increasing concern in gastrointestinal tract and its associated organs. We present a patient with advanced renal cell carcinoma, who presented with acute liver failure after the first dose of combined immunotherapy with nivolumab and ipilimumab.

We present a case of SEP in a 49-year-old African American patient who presented with a slowly enlarging eyelid mass and underwent an excisional biopsy with ophthalmology before the diagnosis was confirmed by pathology in the absence of systemic symptoms or bone disease. Our review found only six confirmed cases of SEP of the eyelid described in the literature.

Introduction: This rapid qualitative assessment aimed to understand factors associated with persistent low vaccination demand and uptake, and recommendations to improve health facility-based childhood immunization services in Sokoto State, Nigeria.
Methods: In 2017, 20 focus group discussions and 16 in-depth interviews were conducted with administrative personnel, healthcare workers, caregivers, and community influencers across three local government areas in Sokoto state, Northwest Nigeria. Participants were purposefully selected to capture a range of perspectives regarding access to health services, campaign- and facility-based immunizations, confidence in immunizations, and recommendations to improve childhood immunization uptake.
Introduction: Navy Medicine's Role 2 Light Maneuver (R2LM) Emergency Resuscitative Surgical Systems (ERSS) are austere surgical teams manned, trained, and equipped to provide life-saving damage control resuscitation and surgery in any environment on land or sea. Given the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the previously established pre-deployment training pipeline for was modified to prepare a new R2LM team augmenting a Role 1 shipboard medical department.
Methods: The modified curriculum created in response to COVID-19 related restriction is compared and contrasted to the established pre-deployment R2LM ERSS curriculum.
In the present work, one-step green synthesis of WO based on the interaction of ammonium paratungstate and Spondias mombin leaves extract is reported. Different concentrations of iodine and phosphorus in the range of (2%, 5% and 10%) were firstly incorporated into the prepared WO nanoparticles to obtain Iodine doped and Phosphorus doped WO nanoparticles respectively. Subsequently, iodine and phosphorus co-doped WO nanocomposites was prepared using a wet impregnation method followed by calcination at high temperature.

The current study aimed at investigating the role of in the seminal and morphometric alterations in the testes of streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats under HAART.
Materials And Methods: Sixty-two adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into A-H groups, containing 6 rats in the control group A and 8 rats in the treatment groups B-H.
Aims and methodThe Norfolk Youth Service was created in 2012 in response to calls to redesign mental health services to better meet the needs of young people. The new service model transcends traditional boundaries by creating a single, 'youth friendly' service for young people aged 14-25 years. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the transition to this new model on patterns of referral, acceptance and service use.

Samples were extracted by liquid-liquid extraction techniques, analyzed by ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS), and quantitated using commercially sourced, derivatized nitrofuran metabolites, with their isotopically labeled internal standards in-solvent. We obtained recoveries of 90-100% at various fortification levels.

The current study aimed at evaluating the role of Hypoxis hemerocallidea (HH) aqueous extract on the testosterone levels, expression of androgen receptors and collagen fibers in the testes of streptozoto-cin-nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats under HAART regimen.

Objective: This study examined the usefulness of maternal anthropometry in predicting the birth size of term singleton newborn infants at NAUTH, Nnewi, Nigeria.
Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 301 mother/newborn infant pairs.
Results: The mean birth weight was 3.
As the roll-out of antiretroviral therapy continues to drive downwards morbidity and mortality in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs), organ toxicities (especially the liver) are frequently becoming a major concern for researchers, scientists and healthcare planners. This study was conducted to investigate the possible protective effect of (AP) against highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)-induced hepatotoxicity. A total of 63 pathogen-free adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 9 groups and treated according to protocols.

Methods: Using available unclassified authentic public information, all leaders who had ruled Nigeria since her independence on 1 October, 1960 until her 45th birthday on 1 October 2005, irrespective of whether they are dead or alive were included. Data was extracted and analyzed.
Background: To determine the incidence of Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in a high risk surgical group following studies in other predominately black populations that showed a lower rate of postoperative nausea and vomiting than that reported from Caucasian and Oriental populations.
Methods: A retrospective observational survey was conducted in the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, Nigeria to determine the incidence of PONV within forty-eight hours of anesthesia in an obstetrical (caesarean sections only) and gynecological population that underwent regional and general anesthesia. The study took place from December 2007-April 2009 (16 months) for the gynecological population and from May 2008 to May 2010 (25 months) for the obstetrical population.
Introduction: The study aimed to perform an audit of intensive care unit admissions in the paediatric cardio-thoracic population in Enugu, Nigeria and examine the challenges and outcome in this high risk group. Ways of improvement based on this study are suggested.
Methods: The hospital records of consecutive postoperative pediatric cardiothoracic admissions to the multidisciplinary and cardiothoracic intensive care units of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu, Nigeria to determine their Intensive Care Unit management and outcome over a 2 year span--June 2002 to June 2004--were retrospectively reviewed.
Recent advances in islet cell transplantation have led to insulin independence in a majority of islet transplant recipients. However, there exists a need to overcome the shortage of donor tissue and the necessity for life-long immunosuppression. Preclinical studies in large animal models are necessary to evaluate the safety and efficacy of alternative approaches for clinical islet transplantation.
