The mechanism by which postural threat induced by standing at a high height causes a decrease in the amplitude and an increase in the frequency of postural sway might involve voluntary control (VC) to avoid swaying, rather than conscious balance processing, in which postural threat directs conscious balance processing. This study aimed to clarify the differences between VC and conscious balance processing during quiet standing. Twenty-seven healthy young adults were instructed to stand with their feet placed together and keep their eyes open.

Proximal gastrectomy (PG) in combination with jejunal pouch interposition is a technique aimed at improving the postoperative dietary outcomes; however, some cases are reported to require surgical intervention owing to difficulty of food intake caused by pouch dysfunction. Herein, we present a case of robot-assisted surgery for interposed jejunal pouch (IJP) dysfunction in a 79-year-old male, occurring 25 years after the initial PG for gastric cancer. The patient had chronic anorexia for 2 years and was treated with medications and dietary guidance; however, 3 months prior to admission his quality of life had reduced, owing to worsening symptoms.

We used modified and dynamic intraoperative cholangiography (IOC) navigation during laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy for difficult gallbladders. We have defined an IOC that does not open the cystic duct as a modified IOC. Modified IOC methods include the percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD) tube method, the infundibulum puncture method, and the infundibulum cannulation method.

Control of the association behavior by molecular design is one of the most essential benefits in artificial supramolecular systems. 1,14-Dianilinotripyrrin has recently emerged as a novel conjugated molecule which forms a double helix in non-polar solvents with the aid of multiple interstrand hydrogen bonding interactions. In this work, we investigated the substituent effects at the 5,10-positions of tripyrrin on their association thermodynamics.

Haptic feedback by light touch with a fingertip influences the postural control of the human body by postural orientation. Postural control might therefore differ depending on the characteristics of the contacting object. The main experimental targets of contact have been a fixed object (fixed light touch: FLT) and an individual (interpersonal light touch: ILT), but the postural control characteristics of FLT and ILT have not been directly compared within the same study.

In contrast to the extensive development of the meso-functionalization of porphyrins, that of corroles had rarely been explored until the development of practical synthetic methods for meso-free corroles in 2015. The ready availability of meso-free corroles opened up meso-functionalization chemistry of corroles, giving rise to successful synthesis of various meso-substituted corroles such as meso-halogen, meso-nitro, meso-amino, meso-oxo, and meso-iminocorroles as well as meso-meso-linked corrole dimers and corrole tapes. In some cases, 2NH corroles exist as stable or transient radical species.

8,12-Dibromo-5,15-bis(pentafluorophenyl)corrole and its Ag(III) complex were prepared via intramolecular oxidative coupling of a 8,12-dibromobilane precursor. The Ag(III) complex was allowed for further transformation via Suzuki coupling reaction. Thus, 2-aminophenyl group was coupled at one of the β-positions, and subsequent demetalation followed by oxidation with MnO afforded 8,10-fused iminoisocorrole in good yields.

The corrole derivative -oxoisocorrole has been theoretically predicted to be antiaromatic, despite its formally cross conjugated electronic system. In this study, this prediction has been experimentally proven by the facile preparation of -oxoisocorrole via the oxidation of a free corrole with MnO and its comprehensive characterization using NMR, UV/vis absorption, FT-IR, and transient-absorption spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and X-ray diffraction analysis. Furthermore, the free base -oxoisocorrole was metalated by treatment with Ni(acac), PdCl(PhCN), and Zn(OAc) to give the corresponding metal complexes.

The vestibulospinal tract (VST) plays an important role in the control of the ipsilateral antigravity muscles, and the balance of left and right VST excitability is important in human postural control. A method for measuring VST excitability is the application of galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) before tibial nerve stimulation that evokes the soleus H-reflex; the change rate of the H-reflex amplitude is then evaluated. Assessments of VST excitability and the left and right balance could be useful when determining the pathology for interventions in postural control impairments.
